I ripped out the old 5" toyota speakers, drilled perfect holes for my infinity 6.5" 2 ways, tested the signal with clip leads, and shook my head...I'm still only getting a bass signal in these wires. Is this the way the M &T amp directs the signal? Is it possible to use the factory amp with 2-ways in the rear? If so, do I need to remove or modify something?
I have to say, that's wierd. You'll have to wait for some M&T'ers to reply to that one.. You haven't seen any obvious alterations to any of the wiring, right? I think a passive crossover that only puts out bass is fairly large, so you'd probably have seen it if there was one hidden in there somewhere..

Nope. No obvious wiring modifications. Everything looks factory. In fact, it must be factory because there's no slack in any of the wiring, and everything is tucked in very professionally. I just called a couple pontiac dealers in the area- looks like they might have to replace the M&T amp or the Head Unit. In any case, it sounds like it's covered by the 3 year/ 36k warranty.I'll cross my fingers on that, and take it in this week.Let me know if you think of anything else. Thanks.
Using the stock wiring to my door speakers. Even to the point that the old connector from the M&T amp is hooked up to my aftermarket amp using the connector from the radio end My M&T package ran full range to all 6 speakers, it just had caps on the tweaters to block the low freq's. I still have the old tweaters and pics of them.... if it helps
Oh. Oops. Guess I did not understand the question. I never checked the rear speakers with the OEM stuff installed. I thought it all sounded good and well balanced. Only changed everything because the GF wanted a loud car and subs...Maybe the amp is knocking off your low end in the rear channel? I have not seen anyone in here having trouble with the head unit doing what you are hearing. Maybe I misread a post somewhere tho...Come to think of it, I think there have been peeps change just their speakers and they did not mention having anything but full range sound from the rear. Maybe the previous owner has some kind of caps inline with the rear speakers, like a cheap and dirty way to have a sub crossover...
That's what I was thinking too. I looked inside the rear doors and under the passenger seat. It doesn't look like anything was modified. Hopefully the dealer will replace the amp. By the way, my addition of new rear speakers won't void the warranty, will it?Also - I've noticed that if I play CD-R's, they skip occaisionally when I shift or stop. Have you guys noticed this?
