OK, I finally got one panel back from the body shop yesterday with the new red metallic paint. It's a darker red, more like burgundy or closer to Salsa. It looks closer to the red leather inserts in my interior. Which do you think I should go with? The new metallic dark red or the original bright red?New Red:
Wow, that's awesome!!!!!If youdon't mind me asking, how much are they charging you to paint all these parts like this? I really really like the way that looks
he's giving me the paint he already has as a freebie. i think he has enough for the 2 door panels. i have to buy a pint of paint and some clear for the remainder. should be about $30-50 depending on cost of paint. he'll put it on his tab so i'll get his price too.
defintely the new red. I'm in the process of doing the same thing to my interior panels. The third coat is curing as we speak I'm doing this myself, and depending on how it turns out (will post pics if I can get my camera to work and find a host hehe), I might do them for others as well.
TRDVIBE I imed you but I am not sure if it worked so here are my questions. Can any Bodyshop do this for you? how much did this cost ?If the acculaser thing doesn't work out I will strongly consider going the route you are taking...The pics you posted LOOKS amazing
Salsa (2-tone) Base Automatic Vibe with Moontune package
I wonder how easy it would be to get this kit and have it painted professionaly by a body shop since acculaser seems to have trouble doing this...Probably cheaper to do what TRDVibe did

Like I said in a couple of other posts, I'm currently painting my factory panels (including the AC head) and will post pics soon. If anyone likes the way they came out, I'll happily do them for other members..
quote:it's a little light/bright, but you get the idea. Much cheaper than any aculaser kit or replacement parts! it cost me $40.I am stunned on how GREAT that looks....Looks like they even got the texture down right... what place did this for you? I wonder if I could go to any random paint/body shop and get this good of a job done...I am going to start shopping around

If I can get my hands on a digital camera, I will snap some shots of the job I am doing on mine and post them. I'd be happy to do it for forum members, and I have an idea of how to cut down the time you'll be w/o panels hehe.Would someone with a parts list look up the panel part#'s and prices please? The dealership told me the center A/C panel comes with the actual A/C control unit only, which would probably make it pricey. My guy seems to have experience with the Vibe, so he probably knows what he's talking about.
after doing it myself first, it looked fine. but then having it professionally done, it looks awesome! the body shop that did it, also works on show cars and such. he knew exactly what type of sealer to put on first and how it would react with the paint if there was a deep scratch. i probably spend about 4 hours over there as he explained it to me. spray cans just can't do the job like a pro. unless you have all the air tools, paint booth, sealers, hardeners, automotive clear coat (not the laquer kind I used), and a way to bake the parts to that glossy finish, it will look OK, but not great. You really have to see it to appreciate what a fantastic job he did. he was only going to charge me for the paint $23, but I wanted to give him atleast $40 for all his help.
after having it all weekend, I can't tell you how good it looks. I will talk to Lou and see if he would be interested in painting more parts if some of you are interested. This was kind of a fun project for him, but will see about if he might want to do it for actual work. I imagine you'd be looking at a bit more than what I paid, probably $80-100 since it takes time from his regularly scheduled auto body shop. let me know if you are intersted. I will keep a tally and contact him about it.
when I talked to Lou he told me $200 plus shipping. He did it for me for cost because, well, he likes me. actually, it takes a long time since he has to sand down all the parts, seal them, sand those, and then paint, clear, and bake. It's a lot more work than he thought when he offered up the job. It's more than the aculaser kits, but I think if you're going to spend $150 for stick on parts, you may as well pay the extra $50 to have it professionally painted. They look awesome!

id say that paint job looks excellent. doesnt even look like paint, i think it just looks like glossy red plastic. good job! id consider doing the same thing, but i dont know what color id want. i already like the silver.

yeah, too bad you can't see the metallic flakes. when the sun hits it, it's deep scarlet read with little tiny metal flakes that reflect from the light. it's so awesome! I'm very pleased with his work. lou will be doing the new SS hood for me too once that comes.
Tricked had one from his contact at Krera Racing. He told me to go to carflair on the web, http://carflair.com/pontiachoods.htm. they have a special right now. free shipping if you call it in. it only cost me $20 extra for shipping.
yeah, he said he can probably do it for about $300-350 installed. my company is moving me back early so I have to come back to get it. i called anchorage and a few places told me $800-900! yeah, i'll be driving back for sure!
