Shift Light

Post by celica girl »

I tried a search but couldn't find the wiring info for the tach. There was one post that said it's the black wire with the silver dot but I would just like this confirmed before I go and do this mod. I was wondering if you can get to this wire by pulling out the gauge cluster or do you have to go to the ECU to get at it.Thanks.

Sorry... it's an aftermarket shift light... for racing... that way you don't have to stare at your tach as your run down the 1/4 mile... it comes with pill kits that you can plug in according to where your fuel cut off is.http://hp.autometer.com/produc....html

Not to be a wanker...but...you can't tell when you need to shift by feel...?And not to be a complete (removed)... IM ragingfish. He has the service manual and can give you a definite. Please excuse me..i'm all for guages..but oversized tachs and tach lights in cars that can't redline when you tap the gas seem unneccsary to me.. Please don't take things the wrong way! What you do with your car is your business!

It's not an oversized tach. It's a tiny light just a little bigger than the diameter of a pencil. It's much easier to see while racing than trying to stare at the tach and not hit the rev limiter. I'd rather not be bouncing off the limiter while I'm trying to get a good time down the 1/4 mile.3/4" is not oversized to me

Yeah, she's talking about having it for racing at the track only, not for cruising down the street. If you've ever done the 1/4 mile, you'd know why it was a cool thing to have.

Yeah, they pay Michael Shumacher $40 million a year to drive a Grand Prix Ferrari, and he uses one...

"I don't see how it's useful on a car that DOESN'T hit redline by tapping the gas." I know exactly what shift lights are for, and know you don't need the uber-huge guage to have one, as well. To each their own..

Accaully Micheal Shumacher doesn't use anything close to that type of shift lite. He accually has a multi-funtion steering wheel with all the info he could even need about the preformance of his race car. His "shift lite" is accaully several smaller lights that track across the top of this steering wheel. They start out, I beleive, yellow on his and progress to red at optimun shift rpm's. Most open wheel and sports cars steering wheels us the same basic type of multi-funtion steering wheel. Right now I think the only major motor sport that doesnt use one is NACSAR since they still dont use electronic controlled, engine managment systems (computers).Anyways, any type of shift lite is very handy if you like to run your car down the 1/4 mile. They give you just another visual aid so your shifts are timed at the right moment and the same RPM run per run.

Celicagirl:Service manual labels Pin 27 of the Vibe gauge cluster connector - a black wire - as the tachometer signal.HOWEVER, there are about 4 or 5 separate pins that use solid black as their wire color. Thus, if at all possible, use the pin designation as your guide to finding the right wire. Use this diagram to help you determine which pin is Pin 27:The manual, however, says nothing about black/silver wires anywhere in that particular harness. If you need any help, don't hesitate to IM me using any of the screen names in my profile.

This sounds like a cool idea anyone know where the limiter RPM is in the base so that the light doesn't come on as you hit the limiter?

Mine seems closer to 6,400, but I think I heard that it is at 6,800 on the Corolla with the same engine.

That is high for a limiter, my old car revved out at 4k. You couldn't even get a good mean rev out of it.

The celica GT-S can get up to 8400.The S2000 has a 9000RPM redline... not even sure where the limiter would be.

My friend Heath's Integra could go up to 12,000 (He claimed it could go to 15, but I haven't seen it and he said it's way too risky). Then again, he had an imported J-Spec engine that was tuned by Mugen and had a sponsership from V&T Performance
