Torco RTF tranny fluid.

Post by goodvibe »

When I got my TOB repair during the 30k service I brought in some Torco RTF to try in the tranny on my GT. I have been using Royal Purple Max-Gear. The RP was great when new but was a real hassle in the winter when it got very hard to grab first when cold. It's on the thicker side of 75w90. I didn't wnt to use Redline as it's a GL4 and our warranty calls for GL5 fluid. I think the extra load rating and reduced friction of a GL5 is worthwhile on our somewhat fragile tranny's as long as they're not too slippery for the synchros to work properly. The Torco seems to be GREAT. I've got 200 mi on it now and it's still getting better. It was already easier to shift on a cold(55*) mourning. I don't know if it's because it's on the thin side of 75w90 or if it's just better. It' not quite as damped feeling as warm RP but shifts just as quickly. More snick-snick. I like it. It's group IV and V pure synth mix like Redline. More expensive GRP V esters have an affinity for metal with some cleaning ability, great cold properties and the best natural viscosity spread. RP, Amsoil and Mobile are group IV synth.
