removing front licence plate

Post by Zig in East Orleans »

So, observing the contours of my Vibe last nite I couldn't help but imagine how much cooler the car would look w/o the front plate and mount. Anyone do this in Ontario yet w/o repercussion? I live in the capital and with all the Quebec cars running w/o the front plate, i can't imagine the cops would really notice it and pull me over. btw would anyone know what a fine might be if 'found guilty'?cheers

Well all it takes is removing your license plate and then the two screws that hold the bracket in place and your left with a well rounded bumper on the front with two holes in it...You would have to at least have your plate then sitting on the dash where it would be free to slide around and all that and be a complete hassel...IMO not a smart thing to do even though it would make the appearance better...

Madbill ran without a front plate in Ontario for months and months without being stopped. I just moved from Ottawa to the Quebec side and my car looks great without the front plate especially with the aftermarket billet grilles.

My brother got a "fix it ticket" (you fix it and pay small fine I think $15 instead of over $100) his front windows tinted. He brought the car over the and we took the tint of the front windows. He also had just bought the car (04 Grand Prix) so he decided to take the fron licence plate bracket off since he didnt have plates yet anyways. We took the tint off and drove to the nearest police station to have a cop check it and sign the ticket. As soon as he walked out the 1st thing he said was "Did you also get a ticket for not having a front licence plate" we told the cop it was new and we did not have the plates so he let it go. Cops notice a lot of things but I do like not having a plate in the front but I know I would get pulled over at least here in CA.

The cop was fine in letting you drive around without any plates on though? Weird...

Oh so you had a dealer plate, cause I know if I drove an unplated car around even if I had JUST bought it, I'd be asking for trouble.

When I said no screw holes, I meant no holes in the original dimples in the fascia. The plate is held on by two top and two bottom screws into the black plastic lower trim. Mostly I just didn't like the look with it high on the nose.

Madbill, methinks putting your plate here would restrict airflow to the engine/rad. Am i mistaken?I really do think that it would be easier to get away with it here since Hull, Quebec is right across the river. Besides their 'new' plates look almost the same as ours anyway.

Excess radiator air flow causes needless drag. Knowing that GM/Toyota validates vehicles to the most extreme operating conditions and that I have no intention of towing an overweight trailer at 100 MPH in Death Valley in July, with a 180HP GT, I figured I could substantially reduce the grill area with no ill effects and maybe gain a bit of fuel economy. So far so good; in fact I'll likely try blocking off more of it until I start to see some effect on the hottest days.
