I apologise if this question has already been answered, but I'm new here, and I haven't yet seen it discussed.I'm picking my Vibe up in 2 days. I saw it last week, and noticed that the dealer had placed the usual decal on the left rear panel. I told the salesman that I would prefer to have it removed, if it could be done without damaging the car. I realize I'm nitpicking, but I don't like providing free advertising for a dealer after paying about C$30 000 for a product. He said it could be done.Is there any likelihood of damage to the finish?

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. My dealer only put the license plate trim on my car for advertising. Here's another post with some more info for you.http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=384
It depends on the type of decal but 99% can just be peeled of with no damage. I've done it to my last 4 cars including the Vibe and never had damage. It's best to do it on a warm or hot day. Park the car in a place where the sun is on the emblem. Let it sit there to heat up and get soft and just peal it off. Use WD40 to remove any glue still stuck to the paint.
a hair dryer will work jsut the same for heat.....any type of strong CHEAP aftershave works good to get that goo off toooo!!!JUST SAY NO TO FREE ADVERTISING!!!!!

Many of the GM decals are two part. There is a 1/8 inch thick clear plastic part which comes off first, which covers the decal and protects it from fading. Then the decal is applied to the paint. The decal part is just like the license plate decal, and comes off best if you peel it slowly from one corner. Apply some cleaner wax to the area and it's good as new.
I didn't get a sticker *or* plate frames. I think my friend knew I would put the frames on if I wanted to, so he just handed them to me. Don Davis doesn't put a sticker on their vehicles. Pretty cool of them...

Mine is now gone, peeled it right off and added a little wax and it looks much better, think that I am going to go ahead and de-badge the whole thing now.

I want to thank all of you for your many suggested solutions. As it was, I didn't have to remove it, as the salesman took care of it prior to my signing the papers. Thanks again
I think I will peel off this dealer decal today... I don't like it very much... It's not very warm outside but I will use a hair dryer like I do on my two others cars before. It has worked very well. But I have a question... The dealer decal on my new Vibe is a sort of many little decals like this one «The heartbreaker of America». Each letter is a decal that is alone. I think these letters were originally on a clear plastic. When the dealer put it on, the clear plastic go off... Do someone have an idea about removing it? Do I have to remove each part or letter seperately?

I agree with you James! With all the excitement I got since this Wednesday when my dealer told me my Vibe was arrived, I forgot to say him to not put on his decal... So, today, I will remove it...

When I got my Vibe, I asked the dealer to remove the dealer decal, and they did so with a screwdriver. Needless to say it put many chips in the paint on the rear end were it was. Now they have to repaint it, and I didnt even get to drive off the lot before getting my frist sratch. If you ask the dealer to take it off, make sure they arent idiots!
I have it in writing (e-mail) from the owner of the dealership that they will not put their dealer sticker on my Vibe when it arrives. As for the dealer that removed the sticker and damaged the paint in the process, I'm sure I would have been mad enough to cancel the deal right there and start sending angry letters and phone calls up the line at Pontiac and GM. - Earl

If you take your figurenail when washing the vehicle right after buying it, the decal should come right off. If you wait and the sun bakes it on it'll never come off.The day I brought my new car home I did this and it pealed right off.
Okay, I'm another decal novice. What do you use to start the peeling process. Obviously nothing too sharp, etc. Any suggestions? Also, I've had my vibe for over a month now, is it too late to peel off?
I insist the dealer doesn't put it on. If they forget, I make them take it off.If you do happen to have problems getting it off, a heat gun works good. I have had a few Chevy 4X4s and I always take the math problem off the rear quarter panel. I took the "CHEVROLET" off the end gate of one too. It took some time but it was clean looking when it was done.
I usually don't have decals put on...but this time it was ok...it is a taseful small graphic decal...it simply says "hudson" with a sailboat...I sail regularly on the hudson...so it fits...maybe that's why I like the dealer...hudson pontiac in dutchess county, ny

Just a follow up of the removal of the decal. After washing my Vibe, I used a hair dryer to warm the glue and the decal was removed easily by my fingernail... and after it was like there wasn't had a decal before...So easy and it looks better!

quote:So easy and it looks better! There is an easier way. If the dealer didn't put the goddam thing on in the first place, the would be even easier. Aren't these dumbass dipshiats listening? Read my lips all dealerships. D O N O T P U T Y O U R G O O F Y D E C A L O N M Y C A R. As you can all imagine, being a Canadian Vibe orderer, I have no respect for the snivelling little wieners that call themselves GM dealerships in Canada. The GM dealereships in Canada should be organizing some kind of collective action in protest of the way GM treats Canadian consumers. But of course, being little wieners, that won't happen.
I also insisted that the dealer decal not go on my car. I was in the detailing garage when the were putting on my rear bumper protector and my dealer told them not to put it on. I seen my Vibe a couple days after that and no sticker. Just their ugly license plate border which is even easier to take off when I get my plate. Here is a link to a pic of my Vibe which has not been washed yet because I am not taking delivery until next week.Take a look: My Vibe with no dealer sticker.
