Check Engine Light

Post by silvervibeGT »

hey everyone, just looked through countless posts about cai's and the cel. My Vibe is running great with the injen cai, and this morning I started her up and there it was, the cel. I checked all the connections once I got to work, they are fine, I need to check the hose coming from the pump in the front bumper but I can't do that till I get home. If that is not the problem and the car is running fine, would it just be a normal thing for it to come on due to the cai? Is there a way to disconnect the cel from coming on? I hate lights i.e. the cel and the seatbelt light, they drive me crazy. I know that Swirv had the same problem with his 04 GT but didn't see a post as to what the final result was. let me know if anyone has any new info on the subject. Thanks again everyone!

You might have the same problem everyone else with a GT has had, well those that had the light come on, quite a few haven't. Your air/fuel ratio is different now with the CAI and that sets the code... it might have set yours... you have access to a scanner?

swirv fixed his. it ended up being that the hoses on the smog pump came loose. so check that and make sure they are all connected. he hasn't had his CEL come back on yet.

Places like AutoZone can hook up a scanner and read out the error code. That can be used to identify the malfuntioning system , which may or may not be related to the CAI. If it looks like a CAI related thing, then maybe the folks here can help you figure out how to fix it. If it's not CAI related, then you should be ok taking it back to the dealer and getting it fixed for free.Maybe it's something as simple as not putting the gas cap on tight enough. How long was it from when you installed the CAI until the CEL came on?

nah, I checked all the little goofy things like the gas cap and all that, it has to be with the CAI. The car doesn't have 2000 miles on it yet, I would doubt that something broke on it already. The light came on about two days after the install, I would say about 100 miles driving.

something might have come loose, but if your friend can get you the code and its information, it will tell you whats the problem, air fuel ratio, a vac problem... and so on.

Did you let the car idle for 20 minutes after installing the CAI? If not, it may be worth a look, I know that normally people will get the cel right away, it may be worth it to disconnect the battery, reconnect it and let the car idle for a little bit.

maybe get the codes read out to see what the car thinks the problem is. Either your mechanic buddy or even take it to an autozone. should be several of them close enough to hatboro.

I can tell you that in our shop if your were to bring it in with the cel light on and with the cia installed you might get the code read but not much would be done to fix anything untill the intake was back to original. This would not be covered under warranty either. When calling GM tech support the first thing they ask you is have any aftermarket mods been made and then they more or less hang up on you.

Hey, there! My CEL went away after reconnecting the vacuum hose to the smog unit. There was also a crimp in the hose from being bent in Injen's packaging. I straightened it out as best I could and reinforced it with some duct tape. I also duct taped the connection between the hose and smog unit. It's probably not the nicest looking fix or the most permanent. I'm looking into ways of clamping the hose around the smog unit connection and maybe getting a small length of pipe to eliminate anymore crimping. Oh, yeah, disconnect the battery for at least 15 minutes while you are playing around withe hoses to reset the ECU.As an aside, my CEL came on for 2 days out of the blue and went away just as suddenly. I can only guess that the weather was extremely hot that day or the previous night's racing. Hope that helps.

I think I have an air leak somewhere in the cai system, when I shut the car off I can here it, I checked the connection to the smog pump and it's good, no kinks or anything of the sort. Anyone have any info on where the leak could be? And what parts to rule out. thanksgotta get rid of this damn cel

The CAI will make a hissing noise when you shut the car off. At least mine did and I never had a CEL with mine.

HaHa, well let's just say that I was the problem all along, after the install I had a vsv hose connected wrong and got some help from the Canada forum (thanks guys)...which droped the idle rpms back to where they should be and the CEL went out but came back two days later. Yesterday I went to the local speedshop and asked them about it. I was told to disconnect the battery once again and if the CAI was installed properly that the CEL would go out. basically the MAF wasn't adjusted to the new air flow. The guy in the shop told me to make sure I disconnected both cables from the battery, not just the positive, so I went home pulled them off for 20 minutes, put em back on and ran it for 20 minutes and she is fine now! So, the Injen CAI works great with the 04 GT if you don't screw up the easy stuff
