looking for some really grippy all season tires, i understand id need some new rims defenetly, so i looked up 50-17 tires with different width(i dont wanna change gearing factorys with accel) so i found thesehttp://www.tirerack.com/tires/...1=yes255/50-17 all terraindo they look like the would actually be good, im new to this, also would they fit?!?! i dont need wheels sticking out of my cars wheel wells, so if not thats fine, anyways just messing around and snooping at tires..if these would be too wide what would be a good size? and i AM willing to get a new suspention kit(would like to get the Tein SS or whatnot 2.4 inch lowering kits or someting similar that woul dhelp handling)
those are wide. i think mad bill has wider wheels but i wouldnt get anything over 225 width
look my sniggies, i had a strizz-oke in my brizz-ain okay, you know what im saying. so i cant move all good. but thanks for mentioning that .thank you very much.athf4evr. click here! you know you want to!!!
Your gearing will be way off. 225/45/17, 245/40/17 would be close.

Here's a couple of recent threads that touch on tire sizing and should answer your questions:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id ... ?id=1066PS: As I recall, a 245/40 x 17" is very close to stock diameter and would be a safer bet than a 255
thanks guysQuote, originally posted by goodvibe »Your gearing will be way off. 225/45/17, 245/40/17 would be close.245 would still be wider then 225 right?
Quote, originally posted by Evanshall »thanks guys245 would still be wider then 225 right?yes 245 would be wider but since you'd be going from a 45 side wall to a 40 side wall, the diametre remains pretty close to being the same.Your best bet to match the 16 inch stock rim size almost to perfection would be the 225/45R17. Not to mention that tire would be a little cheaper as well.

im ok with buying new rims, i dont need spinners, but the stock hubs look horrid on the GT , atleast mine do with the two tone lava paint, ehhh f000ee, i have Z rated, im fine with them for now , THERE Z RATED!!
Evanshall...Hey, I actually own a set of these tires. Have the 235/45 R17's. They're a real nice tire compared to the '03 stock Dunlops and I'm sure better than the Touring Contacts and RS-A tires also standard on other rims. They can be a bit quirky though. I noticed they're effected by heat more than my OEMs were, though not overly so. Maybe because they were a bit wider... I dunno. Also, don't put any more than about 36 psi in em or else the tread patch seems to push out and you'll lose some steering response. The side-walls are very soft/flexible but it makes for a very quiet and smooth ride.As for snow, I felt the softer rubber and aggressive tread makes for good traction. You have to remember though, they're not Summer/Racing tires. They do ok, not stellar, up to about 45 mph for sharp turns but the faster you go, the more the soft sidewalls prevent sharp, aggressive turning. I'm hoping some of the sidewall flex will go away once I get wider wheels and since you're getting wheels too, just be sure you get at least 8" wide rims. One last thing... I'm considering the 245/40-R18's for my next set with wheel upgrade. Smaller sidewall should also help that flexing problem...Dave
DavidPIL, I'm surprised someone mounted them on a 7' wide rim. Conti recommends 7.5 to 9. A wider rim would defenitely help the dull responce a lot. The stock tire size would actually handle better and be less effected by heat and pressure. You want to be in the middle up of recommended rim width if you're interested in handling but I suspect you know that now.

Hiya goodvibe...Yeah, I actually knew that when I got the tire last Fall. Was intending to replace the wheel shortly after but time and money became an issue. Other than response, the tire was still much better than the OEM 17".Dave

nice to hear!!, honestly after my last post i just stopped considering they idea because i thought myself off the rocker, i qeuss youve prooved me wrong in a good way , we need some all season tires, we do have about 10 hardy snow days a year, in which the Z rateds robably wouldnt get us out of our drive way, but looking at snow tire prices i was thinking, why not just a sweetas all season tire!! so thank you very much, ill do more and more research hopefully sooni dont know why but i havnt felt like researching or doing anything to the vibe recently, just been feeling kinda down latly, o well, i dont think theres that many things much cooler then a sweet set of rubber to connect you to the ground, and if these things mean all season, an dyou say they can do all season, wooooeee,
Hiya,Yeah, I think if you want a Z rated (though you'll probably never even go as fast as an H rated tire), and decent snow handling as well, you can't beat this tire. Just remember though, it doesn't mean you should, or be able to, go any faster in the snow though. The rubber tends not to get as hard when cold but because of the softness in the rubber and sidewall, they will flat-spot. Fortunately, with the way these warm up, the flat-spotting goes away relatively quickly. The overall look of the tread and sidewall is unique and looks pretty nice when shined up. Some people say the sidewalls look too busy but I really like em. Let me know if you get em and how you like em...Dave
