Ok I keep reading about all of these problems with the 04+ GT's and CAI... I almost just bought one.. but now am having second thoughts... I just got this car... less than a month old.. and don't want any problems.... does anyone have any good stories of it ackualy working... and maybe some pictuers showing how it is supposed to be hooked up before I go out and spend $150+ on CAI!! Thanks for all the HELP....
You could wuss out like I did and just get a short ram. I did see quite a nice gain over 4k rpm... and at 6200 it gets loud as hell and takes off. It really seems to make a difference. I guess it might be a hp or 2 less than a cai but I do NOT want to deal with a cel. I got my short ram on ebay for about $50. It is a 'bomz' brand short ram. It comes with a pretty crappy filter but I figure I can just replace the cone filter with a k&n in a few thousand miles.
i dont have any specific news myself, but dont jump to conclusions on this one, i think there are some 04s that are happily running CAIs, and CAIs, wether its Injen or AEM are way better then short ram, but ram is still goodim seeing a whole slew of dynos both pointing at "Injens better" "AEMs better" all from guys like us that dont work for corporation, but i have seen 12hp increases from Injen, but only 8-9hp from AEM, but AEM might traditionally helps low end alot and tourqe, either way ive heard "you cant go wrong" soooo, i dono, im still in the mist of research
The thing you have to do is connect everything correctly. I belive the 04 GT has more than 1 hose (compared to the vibe) that has to be connected to the intake and if you mix up the connections then it messes up how it works. Injen is one of the best brands and im sure they tested it before they released it just a matter of installing it correctly.

it should be, looking at the 2005 Vibe to 2005 Matrix they too seemed to have the same changes, atleast stat wise, so yes i beleive it would be same, but id wait for somebody else to repley besides me, cuz im only about 75% sure, and its best to be 100%

I have a '04 GT and yes, I did have a CEL, but that was due to a loose hose. Once I fixed that, no more CEL. The gains in performance and sound are noticeable... and addictive . I suppose the biggest worry is not knowing what to expect during the install. I was fortunate to have DJ help with the install. There are a couple extra hoses which connect to the smog unit in the driver's side lower bumper. Taking off the bumper is very helpful to get at the smog unit. I actually have the Injen CAI for the 2004 Matrix XRS and it works perfectly. The YEAR is important. There is a Vibe GT specific CAI in the works from Injen, but not out yet as far as I know. Hope that answers some of your doubts.

So what about Cosmo CAI's? they say it works on the 04... does itt??? is't Cosmo in canada? if any one knows anything about them let me know.. thanks...
sigh... yes, the matrix xrs is EXACTLY the same as the vibe GT w/ the exception of the foglight placement. you either have to cut the pipe a few inches or just shove the filter up onto the pipe a bit more. not a big deal. for engine parts and performance parts, the XRS and GT are the same. if you open the hood for a trix and a vibe you can't tell the difference. that's why you see little "toyota" stickers on a lot of the parts under the hood. the EXTERIOR is very different (although not that much but enough you can't mix and match). The INTERIOR is the same w/ the exception of the horn button and maybe some standard features b/w models. if you are worried about the CEL but you still want SOME added power, then perhaps a short ram might be the best for you. you will see very minimal gains like MAYBE 5-7 hp difference (if that) especially on the Bomz or ebay units. they don't do any R&D like AEM, TRD, Injen, etc. that's also why the name brands are carb legal and the generics aren't. a full CAI will probably add about 12-14hp and yes, it does make a good bit of difference!and if you'd really like some nice low end torque, have some extra cash sitting around, you can do what i did and get a unichip. it took care of my CEL right away. since January, hasn't been back. i got a lot more low end power (i think one of the xrs guys dyno'd like 150 ft/lbs at 4000 rpms?) and w/ the cai combo, it's awesome! not a turbo, but it definitely moves much better and faster than your stock GT.
Quote, originally posted by Evanshall »is this for later models? if i own a 03 GT cant i just buy a XRS model Injen Race Devision CAI and still get the same gains?injen makes a cai for the 03 vibe gt. the pipe is a little shorter so the filter isn't crammed against the rear of the foglight housing.

Yeah they told me make sure you put your make model and year when ordering and color... but they said they have one for the 04 GT vibe.. looks like that's what I am getting.. and the cat-back from magnaflow is next.. ( birthday next month ) and hopefully uni-chip for X-mas

Hey I wonder if the guys at unichip can change the lift point like Lotus did with the Elise??? bet that would help allot
Quote, originally posted by Smokin' Rubber »What do you mean Hope? Like minimal HP gains for lowering the beginning of lift?yes, something like that. i can't remember exactly, you'd have to weed thru the MO.com threads for an explaination. it was a bit over my head. LOL
