suspension and brakes

Post by drw2514 »

I want to swap out all four brakes on my vibe for new discs. I'm looking at 12" rotors. I'm not too sure if it'll look alright, though. I've only got 17" rims, and i'm not sure if they'll fit or not. anybody have any experience with this type of thing?i also want to lower the suspension of the car. i read that someone recommended the eibach pro kits for the awd. i don't want a drop of more than 2" because I do encounter curbs, etc. i'd also like to preserve some of the ride comfort........coil overs are adjustable right? those would be nice so that i could adjust easily between summer and winter settings. also, don't lowering springs hurt the car because they put more pressure on the suspension? i thought i read that somewhere.any recommendations/bits of advice are greatly appreciated.

First, you can't just swap your rear drums for discs. I can't find a conversion kit either, so you're looking at some custom work. Second, 12" discs won't fit without some kind of caliper modification. I doubt they will fit with 17's anyway. AEM makes a kit that uses 11.5" discs for the GT front brakes and you need 17's at least for that kit to work. The AEM kits for the GT run about $1100 plus labor, so figure on spending at least double that if you want the custom work done to put bigger brakes on an AWD, plus you'll need larger rims.True coilovers aren't made to raise and lower a car, they are made to fine-tune suspension adjustments for racing, cheap coilovers will bounce like crazy on the street. Street coilovers aren't that easy to adjust either, you have to jack up the car adjust one wheel, set it down, jack up the next wheel, etc... Then after doing all 4 wheels, you're car might be tilted to one side or the other and you'll have to start over again to get it to sit correctly.Lowering springs like Eibach would be a better deal if you don't want to go lower than 2 inches and still want ride quality.I used an Eibach Pro-kit on my Sunfire (which is a lot closer to the ground then a Vibe to start with) and never had any trouble with MI winters.

so there are springs that work on the awd vibe. i'm pretty sure that the tein s-techs don't work. would the eibach's work on my AWD? has anybody put springs on their awd? input would be appreciated.
