Toyota anti-freeze

I plan to change my anti-freeze around 30,ooo. I don't believe all this new 100ooo mile or long life anti-freeze stuff. I don't want to use the new orange stuff my GM dealer uses and I think most Toyota and imported anti-freeze has more of a red color. I have seen too many cars and trucks with the GM anti-freeze come into our shop with intake manifold leaks and leaking head gaskets. I believe that had the anit-freeze been changed before becoming depleted this wouldn't have happened. Too many seem to believe this new long life anti-freeze never needs to be changed. From what I have seen in our dealership this isn't the case. Input welcome.

yep, its a moot point; the Toyota antifreeze found in the matrix and vibe is not long life fluid. It needs to be changed after 2 years. The color is not important; go to any shop and have them flush it out today.

How do you get all the old water- antifreeze out of the system? I wonder if Pontiac would give you a bad time about using this product?

I raised up the end of the car and used compressed air to get it out of the system. It won't void your warranty either. I can see a dealer giving you crap about it, but their hands are tied.

The machine that flushes your cooling system pushes the new water and anti-freeze mix into the cooling system and therefore forces the old anti-freeze mix out ahead of it. I am sure it is not perfect but that is the way it works and gets most of the old stuff out. I would be careful how much air pressure I used to force out the old anti-freeze as most cooling systems only run at around 15 psi and too much pressure from a air compressor could cause a leak in the heater core or radiator by a ruptured seam.

I did it the easy clean way. I paid my local Toyota dealer 100 bucks to do my 50 000km service while I drank some coffee, made a few calls and flirted with the cute sales girl out front. No muss no fuss , and I get a receipt to put in my log to show I have done all major services on time, a big bonus come trade in time!

Service manual says start with a cold engine, remove radiator cap, then run the engine 15 minutes. Shut it off and drain it. The hot engine opens the thermostat and allows more of the engine to drain. But you have to take the cap off when it is cold or you'll poach yourself.

Well , finally got to the Toyota dealer in a nearby town and got myself some TOYOTA antifreeze and let me tell you it ain't cheap. $28 dollars for two gallons but I didn't mind because I want to make sure I have the right antifreeze for the engine. Will change before the manual calls for. I see too many vehicles that aren't maintained properly and my money is too hard to come by to be buying a new car because I neglected the one I have now. I am lucky to even be driving a NEW car this time as I had planned on buying a lease return car but my dear wife said I could but a NEW one this time. I want this cool new car to LAST. I really love a new car and being able to break it in like I want.

Heck yeah, that red Toyota stuff is pricy. The local Toyota place robbed me of $36 for two jugs, so sounds like you got a deal!Since you're mixing 50/50, it only requires one gallon for the flush. I bought an extra one, just in case.

I looked at the MSDS sheets for both products and it turns out that the Dexcool has a sodium/potassium compound in it (Im thinking it probably helps deal with minerals in the water by turning them to salts, since it says to use "any drinkable water"), other than that they appear the same on the MSDS sheets.

I used Prestone when I did my coolant flush. No probs.
