My wife and I had a slight, ahem, disagreement.I tend to think that the Vibe is well suited for families, per eqp.available.I know that the ads lean heavily on the seemingly, active single lifestyle. She,on the other hand, believes, that, there is no family attachment to the vehicle.......(I know I know. You don't have to say it)Opinions are welcome either way.........I'm being very diplomatic,so please help us out,Thanks.
My wife to be (someday) and I have 2 kids (7yrs & 7mo old) and we all love the Vibe. The 7year old has her front seat attached/fold down desk to draw on, and the 7 month old falls asleap after only 2 miles on the road. There's plenty of room for the infant carseat and the anchor points for the toddler seats are easy to get at. And there's even enough room for grandma. We all go to the Walmart all the time and it's always an enjoyable trip. Then after shopping, there is lots of room in the back to put groceries and stuff. No it's not as big as a minivan or a full size SUV, but it is a lot better than most 4 doors. For my family it works very well. And I can still go out and zoom around!

Below is the reason I bought my Vibe. He was born 9-11-01, and is a little difficult getting into the back seat of my (then) 2 door Cavalier Z-24, my wife's 01 Stratus R/T coupe, and a little young for my 85 Vette. The Vibe is much easier for me to get him in and out of the rear seat.
I have 2 girls (ages 5 and 3). One of the reasons I went with the Vibe to replace my Sunbird (instead of a Hyundai Tiburon or another J-body car) was so I could use it for the family when we didn't need all the room in our Chrysler Voyager minivan (which is often). The Voyager is my wife's daily driver but it gets terrible gas mileage (13-14 mpg in the city).
So --why wouldn't the Vibe be a family car? It has 4 doors plenty of room and is inessence a sta wagon. It looks sharp ,whether your single or have a family . I myself got rid of my 2000 Jimmy because it was to clumsy and was to big for me but yet I wanted something I could transport stuff in the back. It carries my Pedal Steel Guitar and my monster Peavey Sessions 500 amplifier. when I need to transport it. Simply put --I'd say it should fit anyones purposes regardless of whether your single or married and have a family because it is a very practical ,sharp and well suited vechile. I love driving something that is new to the market and people always comment on it. And yes the milage is GREAT!Take your wife and let her test drive one,I think she will learn to like it. James
I think the vibe is definitely a family car. I have two stepdaughters ages 9 and 6 and they were the whole reason for purchasing the vibe. They were quickly outgrowing the 4 door cavalier. Their knees were wearing my back out!!!! ANd the dodge dakota extended cab that my hubby drives was outgrown about a year ago. We wanted a family car without the stigma of the "soccer mom" minivan. I am 27 and don't want to get a "grown-up" car like a mini van just yet. The Vibe is the PERFECT family car. ANd now I am the coolest stepmom ever because when I go to pick up the kids from school all their freinds tell them what a cool car that their stepmom has..... That makes it worth it to me!!!!!!!
Heather Proud vibe owner I'M DRIVING IT 'TIL THE WHEELS FALL OFF! IT HAS SURVIVED ABUSE FROM A DUCK......A COYOTE...AN ARMADILLO...A HUGE DEER (NONE OF THEM WERE PETS EITHER ) ...AND A DAUGHTER....WHAT A CAR! 106K AND STILL GOING STRONG!!!!
The Vibe is my Sole vehicle, and I like it better than any I've had before. My wife and son love it, and those long trips back home are a snap with the acreas of cargo space and the roof rack to boot. It is easy to get in whether front or back, which is good because I have to wrestle my son into his car seat. I was really impressed with the vibe, and I'm sure you will too.

It *can* be a family car, but it also can be a sport compact. I, myself, am not married (And dont plan on being so anytime in the near future). I picked the Vibe GT because I like small, sporty cars, but I also like to do outdoor things, hike, bike, camp, etc. Sure, I have to put up with "Why did you buy a station wagon?!?" "IT'S A STATION WAGON!!", but when all they see are the tail lights, they shut up.

The vibe is all the above and then some.It is a station wagon, suv and sports car all in one.I have had a lot of cars in my past and IMO the "vibe" is one of the most versatile cars you can by buy.Tell your wife she can have the best of both world's.
My family is a little older, so one observation -- my GT is cheaper to insure than my wife's '96 minivan, but only because my teenage kids are away at college. If they were at home, my wife's insurance would go up slightly, while mine would more than double! Apparently the GT is too much temptation for a young driver.

My kids are 3 & 6 - so I had to get a 4 door car. And for adults, the back seat is better than a high floor SUV.My son loves watching the NAV system screen, even when puttering around town. I had to use the NAV for real last week: we get very thick fog in this part of California, and taking kids on a field trip I wanted to be extra careful, so I was very glad to have the NAV system tell me where I was and what was up ahead, and which way to turn (you can't see the signs in the fog).

I changed my 2001 Montana for the Vibe cause I wanted something smaller and less expensive on gas but I needed enough room to stock my subwoofer and all the stuff when it is time to leave the city. i have a 18 month old soon, so I needed a 4 doors and enough space to carrie all the babies stuff. That's why I choose the Vibe. Plus, it looks very nice. This is the perfect car for a family, better on many piont then big SUV.
Here is some evidence to further explain how great a family car the Vibe is.first off, I'm 6'5 and drive with the seat down and back. , I've had my sister in law who is 5'7 sit behind me without complaint (this with our map pocket chock full) We've had two adults and a 4 month old in a carseat in the back for a thirty minute drive, even the Baby was quite. We but all the diaper bags and stroller in the back no problem. My father who does not get into or out of cars very easily says that my Vibe is easier to get in and out of then his Oldsmobile 88.Everyone in the backseat says wow! what a cool dashboardWe bought the Vibe after testing the rear seats for me (again, I'm 6'5) in every car. Only the Matrix had comparable rear seat room, Not the Protege 5, not the Focus ZX5, Not The VW Golf or Beetle, not the Prius, not the Forrester or Impreza. oh, and not the Mini, if you can believe that. All in all the Vibe is a great versatile vehicle that really does offer something for everyone, The GT for you speed demons, the AWD for you mountain folk, and the base for the rest.Yes it definitly is a "family" vehicle

THE VIBE IS DEFINITELY A FAMILY CAR.ME, THE WIFE,OUR 4 MONTH OLD SON( IN HIS CARSEAT)AND GRANDPA & GRANDMA ALL OUT FOR A RIDE...........NO PROBLEM.LETS NOT FORGET THE STROLLER IN THE BACK TOO.
I bought my GT purposely for family use, I have 2 kids 5 and 3.....they absolutely love this car, and so does the wife. My 3 year old loves to hear me changing gears, they absolutely despise my wifes focus. Thank god that car is going in 2 months. The vibe is excellent for "family" shopping, picnics, beach get aways etc. No doubt about it!and way cheaper then the subaru!

Don't get me wrong, very cute child ya got there. But my dear lord, your interior is going to be chocolate covered in a week. I Bi*ched at my friend the other day for not taking his empty Mountain Dew bottle out of my car.

quote:your interior is going to be chocolate covered in a week. Oh no.....No Oreo's in the Vibe! That pic was taken in our kitchen. Should have seen the pic with his 1st birthday cake. He had some goldfish cracker pieces all over the back seat last night, but those were easy to brush off. Thank you.Carl

Cute boy! Enjoy everyday with him. He'll be driving his own Vibe soon enough! Mine are older, son & daughter who are 22 & 19 resp. I miss the days when they were small. Also, glad to hear of something wonderful happening on 9-11-01.BTW-For the few times it happens, we ALL fit comfortably in the Vibe. Got mine just because I liked the way it looks. Everything else about it a bonus!
