NICE!!! But, what about rain? I would think you would want to keep the engine compartment dry most of the time.

Rain won't affect anything inside the engine bay water gets in there all the time from the front grills and anywhere else it can get in. It vents overtop the back of the engine making the engine bay cooler like the celica.

I would love to fabricate a ram air for my car but I'd nee to borrow some aluminum, a metal fabrication shop, and I would need a test car (no way in hell am I going to test this on my car with the chance of screwing it up lol)Btw you might think about adding some plastic molding to direct the cold air to certain parts of the engine and have little channels to direct the water off to the side

Well technically he is right it IS functional for his purpose. He never said he would be using it for ram air which it is not setup for.

Sorry i will choose to disagree, This a a hack-job. The cut-out job is uneven, was a templet used (doesn't look like it); the mounting of the scoop on top is off center, and the cheap grating used underneath screams trailer park. If you are going to modify an expensive body panel to acheive both cosmetic and functional purposes please get a professional to help you. This was not a professional install, i could do no better my self, but I am not a body guy, you should have waited and spent more money for a shop to do the install. BTW we all have two huge holes in the front of the car which bring cool air past the motor, seems pretty adequate?! This install of Celtics will only serve to make that insulation inside the hood look like shredded wheat in about a month, which could in fact start a car fire, thereby increasing the overall temp under the hood. Not functional AT ALL!!

man thats a bit harsh...and what do you mean the grating screams trailor park? grating is grating, and who the heck cares what the grating looks like on the inside of the engine bay. Heck why didn't pontiac line the engine bay with pure gold since it is the best for heat deflection and it looks nice!? We'd only have to pay alittle more for that...

It maybe harsh but why cut up your car if it looks worse and has its value severly reduced by cutting and hacking. I work in this industry everyday and see guys spend as little as possible doing a job like this because they dont realize the work involved. Just the mounting, coulnd't even be bothered to get out a measuring tape. And the cut outs are totally uneven and different sizes. I stand by what I say. This is a perfect example of why body work cost the money it does, its not easy. Do it right do it once. What do you think the dealer is going to be thinking to himself as he is deciding your trade value, 'Well gotta replace the hood, that 1500 off what i was going to offer'. BTW if you don't care what the job looks like in the end, why start? Every one of my installs especially the oil guage, looks like a pro did it. I used shrinkwrap over my (removed) connectors, blocked the vent in such a way that it could be functional again, routed oil line pretty much out of sight in the engine bay. If you want to show it off why not have it look great from every angle, you get a better feeling about what you have done.

I don't mean to be hard on you Celtic but you could have got that laid out and cut out by a GOOD body shop for 100 bucks, it would have been money well spent.

I think that the pics in the other thread give the illusion that the hood scoop is not centered, but that it is just due to the slight angle the picture was taken from. I took one of the pics and drew some lines on it, it looks to me like the scoop is well centered.

Yes, it is centered, and it was done by a body shop. He didn't go in there hacking his hood up himself. I think we get the point now engine1, it's not your taste. Don't be so rude about it.

Man, f*ckin chill out! Maybe it's sole purpose was for appearance but people like you got on his @$$ because it was non functional so he thought he had to make it functional in order to regain respect...Now that it works you still arn't happy. The chances of the insulation catching on fire is probably about 0.000000000000000000000009. Si think the hood scoop looks awsome and I don't understand what your problem is. It's not off centered either just open your eyes a little man.

Well thanks for the remarks there engine1, I'll let the folks at international collision (the most respected custom body shop in town ) know they did a hack job. Everyone is entiled to their view, it is functional for my purposes and should I go with a TMIC like someone recommended it will be way more than functional, I don't know where your getting your facts about what is and what isn't functional, but to direct airflow in to the engine like I wanted is 100% completely functional, and as for the dealer wanting to take money off my trade in is dumba** they want to sponsor the car now, and judging fom the constant attention the car recieves because of its uniquenss I'm sure I'll get plenty when I sell it,to each his own.

The shop that Celtic got his scoop installed at does a large number of the show cars here in the city. Including mine. They have done plenty of body work for me. You tell me if my car looks like a hack job. You need to stop being such a jackass. The center post on the scoop itself is a little off. But it is centered perfectly. Stop being a hater and try being creative and do something original to your car. Stop being a chicken (removed) dare to be different. Here's some pictures of the hack job the bodyshop did on my car.

OK, I have a great idea. Everyone just knock the crap off. In case you have not noticed, a ton of good members have been dropping like flies because of this type of arguing and bickering. There is no way that everyone will like everything that anyone does to their car, if you don't like it, just say it's not your thing and let it go at that. When it gets to the point of personal attacks, maybe you have gone a bit too far. If you feel like discussing something further, use the IM feature, that's what it's here for. So, now I am finished ranting. Remember, a little self control goes a long way.

wow! you have a bad day or something?at first, i must admit, i didn't like the scoop. i like monotone. but now after looking at it with his color scheme, it goes well. to add that he got it functional, makes it even better. and i think it's pretty gutsy of him to do this.that's fine if you don't like something, but you really don't have to be such a jerk about it. knowing both jackie and ivan, i highly doubt the bodyshop that worked on his car does a "hackjob" in the least. and if you even looked at the other threads as EVERYONE else has pointed out, the pics MAKE the scoop LOOK off center but it is not. personally, i'd not have done it myself, but that's me. or if i had, i'd paint the scoop. if ivan hadn't gotten it from jackie, i was considering it myself. and i know i sure as hell wouldn't put up w/ anyone calling my car crap or saying the rude things you did. it's his car. if he likes it, then that's what matters.btw, when people ask "what you think?" it's more an invitation to give your opinion if you like it or not. not rip it, the job, anyone involved with it apart. so i guess my review or YOUR review would be 2

I would love yo try and get mine sponsered, however it's in my mom's name and she freaks whenever I buy something for the car. So if nothing else I'm going to have to wait until the warentee's up since that is her major excuse not to buy anything. I'll bet alot of people turn their heads when you roll by don't they? especially with those cute grills ( I have the grills also and everyone around here stares at the car)

I guess I don't see what's so "functional" about it. No ram air, and very little engine cooling, I would think. But hey, whatever...I'm not one for sticking plastic or "carbon fiber" on my car.At least the effort was made to make it "functional". Not trying to be a jerk, but it does look kinda hacked to me. Even respectable body shops can hack jobs. I think it could have been done a lot cleaner. Paint it the same color as the body, and it may look a little more factory.

I think the scoop as it is now is a good starting point. Personally i would have gotten the off-centered Ram-Air scoop that is positioned over the airbox, but that is a mater of personal taste. I do worry that if you decide down the road that you do not like it you will have to spend upwards of $600 for a new painted hood. I have no complaints about the look or installation of your scoop, good job.
