3000 RPM or lower

Well, I just watched a wrecker service haul my vibe to the dealer, I was mounting my neons today and about 4:00 P.M. I was going to run to the store and my check engine light came on when i started it(not flashing). and it was Idling a little high. I put it in drive and around 2000 to 3000 RPM it started to cut out like it was starving for gas, I cleared the code and restarted it and no change. I'll call the dealer tomorrow and find out the problem. I never even got my neons hooked up, just got them mounted.

Weeeeeeird....I'm guessing you don't have a scanner to know what the code was?

Sounds exactly like what happened when Phil's MAF sensor went belly up.

I'm betting its the MAF sensor, sounds exactly what mine was doing... and if I am correct in this, no one will have a part and will take a few days to get one. I ordered one on friday before the meet and it came in weds of the following week. Never did find out what happened to mine.

Yeah exactly what I "did" to mine but I bet you can't remember how you "might" have damaged it either huh... wonder why yours took so long to act up though... hah and you took it there with the CAI in right? I ripped mine out to do that as I told ya at the meet.

Anyone know how much a MAF sensor would cost to buy? My warranty is expired (comming up on 41,000 miles ) and was just curious in case I ever had to replace it myself.Jim

question: when was the last time you cleaned the filter? i know on my tundra i learned that the filter, if not cleaned well or properly, can send the oil and junk up the intake tube and screw up the maf. i usually clean mine every 15K miles even tho it says you don't have to do it for 25-30K miles. and if it's not cleaned and gets dirt and grime that some particals will pass thru the filter and also mess it up.

My new vibe was taken to dealer for repair (at about 256 km). They told me there was a defect sensor(can't remember the name), but seems we got the similar problem. The engine always work at more than 3000 RPM.I leave my vibe at the dealer for 6 days, but they did give me a Chev. Malibu (like new, also have 200km on it), which I found out the have a better control. I guess this is a really weak part for our vibes.

scherry2, It's best to wait till atleast 20k mi. to clean the filter unless it's real dirty where you are. Gauze fiters don't filter as well as stock(well enough) but do better as they get dirty. You won't see any flow reduction for 20k mi. If your sensor acts up again after a filter cleaning (and sitting out for a day), you can try to clean it with contact cleaner or carb cleaner.

We all learn the hard way unfortunately. Raises hand. I took a new K&N drop in out off the carton and put it directly into my intake and fouled the MAF in a day. Next oil filter will sit out of its seal to tac for a while before I install. By the way, I bought a spare MAF on ebay for $25 bucks just in case. Came off a low mi. totaled RAV4. My original works fine after I cleaned it but it's nice to have a spare. I'll just use it in my AEM intake when I install.

sounds like the problem I'm having right now....4000 rpm and lower ...but I took the car to Autozone and they hooked up the scanner to it, and it said cylinder 1 and 4 misfired... it was raining when the problem started, and I'm thinking I got water in my CAI and that might be causing the misfiring, but I would think that the water should've evaporated by now, and after 4000rpm, it runs right I'm afraid to take it to the dealer though, but I'm getting close to the end of warranty.....28000 miles

well I took it to the dealer. been in and out of the dealership for the past 3 weeks...they can't seem to find the problem.....trouble is...it only happenes when I turn...they hooked up an onboard diagnostic computer and had me drive around for a couple days..of course I couldn't get the damn thing to do it then....anyway....I still wonder if it might be the MAF sensor??
