I'm sorry to hear that. I too, recently smacked a deer with my vibe. http://homepage.mac.com/backwa....htmlI didn't damage the hood, and my repair bill is just over $3000 after the insurance company negotiated with the body shop. Good luck getting back on the road. let us know how things go.

That makes the 3rd satellite Vibe to be hit by deer. Makes me glad I sold mine.

ouch. that looks rough. assuming you didn't need the airbags to prevent injury, then it's probably better that they didn't go off.Hope they get it fixed up well and soon.

Not that anyone cares since it had the whole country side to walk across and chose the road the second you appeared but how's the deer?

welcome to the deer club hesredbird. A deer tried to hitchhike with me at 45 miles an hour last year. No airbags went off either, but the windshield sure was sagging in on me. It sure is a scary thing. It was my first accident in over 25 years of driving.

I feel for you. I haven't hit and animal yet thankfully, but I HATE deer with a passion. Most animals like cats, dogs, and maybe even racoons and such atleast kind of look before they dart across the road, or atleast listen and can move out the way easier, but deer just dart out in front of you like stupid @$$es. Deer don't show any emotion at all. I know it's weird to hold a grunge against an animal (removed), but I just hate deer.

Glad you weren't hurt. I work with a lady who her and her husband hit a deer in their Cavalier and it came in through the windshield. She was pretty cut up.There are deer EVERYWHERE around here, and thankfully, I've only hit one in my 27 years of driving. I was coming home on the x-way after b-shift (1:30am), glanced down for just a couple seconds, looked up, and here's a buck about 20 ft. in front of me. I'm doing about 75-80mph and didn't have time to put the binders on. It did quite a number on the front of my 94 Cavalier, dented the roof also as it went over top, but didn't get the windshield.Speaking of deer, there's been one in our back yard the last couple nights. Wasn't enough light to get a good pic, but she looks pretty good size. Hope you get it fixed soon.

just be glad you're not hurt....after hitting a deer in my old car (see the MontoneS's thread link above for my pictures...) i came to the conclusion that while we love our cars, they're replacable....human lives are not.Glad to hear you're safe and there were no injuuries...the car will be fixed and or you'll end up with new one, nothing to get all stressed about, that's why we pay unbelievable prices for insurance!on a side note: i was driving the other day when a bird flew in front of me, i braked and it dove and curled back. I looked in the rearview and didn't see anything on the road so I assumed the bird made it back....wrong!I stopped a few kms down the road and looked at the front of my car. The lower intake served as a perfect 'catch-all net' and the bird was nestled in there with it's wing pushed through (one of the clips unclipped to let the wing in) and unfortunately it was dead.My wife commented on how the 4 front air intake 'holes' are like perfect little 'nets' for catching birds.

I don't brake for birds unless I am going under 35mph. There's this one spot by a church where it's kind of open and birds ALLWAYS fly like 2 feet over the road for some reason. I've hit so many birds on that stretch. The speed limit is 45mph so I'm not going to risk my life or risk getting rear ended by slamming the brakes for a bird. I feel bad about hitting them but it's a two way thing, the birds have to pay attention too lol.My friend was driving down the same street at night and tried to dodge a racoon. The back of his car slid onto the gravel and lost control and then caught the cement and blasted into a telephone pole. He had some injuries but his car was gone.

I live in a deer-infested area too. What I did was get some little doohickeys my dad had laying around (off an old car of his) that create ultrasonic whistles that scare deer off. Not audible to humans, but sounds like a jet taking off to deer. Epoxied them in behind the lower grille, totally invisible. I'd like to think it works, but haven't tested it yet.

Well, I've joined the "hit a deer club". Last night at around 9:15 pm, I was traveling back home (heading west) in South Jersey on a back road. I was able to slow down pretty good, but still hit the deer. Not as much damage as it could have been, but enough to warrant a trip to the body shop and a call to the insurance company. Airbags also did not go off, but I was real lucky because my wife and twin 3-year olds were with me. Nobody was hurt, except for the deer, of course. When we got back home, I called the state police and they are having me fill out a "self-reported" accident form. They also told me that because of the over population of deer in that particular area (and the fact that the state is doing nothing about it) that I may get some money toward the repair bill. Even if it is only $50, it all helps!

Friday morning we had two reported deer strikes on the expressways in Connecticut. We are a tiny state, that is so weird. I am glad everyone is fine, even if the cars aren't. The cars seem to hold up pretty well actually.

I've hit various animals over the past few years with several of my cars. I've hit rabbits, groundhogs, raccoons, squirrels, chipmunks, skunks, birds, and a deer. Only damage from them was the deer I hit with the Mustang. She jumped up out of a ravine and in front of my car when I was going about 75-80 MPH. Hit her in the hindquarters and she shot up in the air and spun around a few times like a helicopter. If she wasn't dead by that point, she sure was when she slammed into a telephone pole on the other side of the road before she ever hit the ground. I felt bad, but there was literally nothing I could have done. She was in front of my car before I could even hit the brakes because she jumped up out of the ravine from a spot where I could have never seen her standing down in there. I was lucky that she was thrown away from the car and that the damage wasn't worse. Most recent animal kill was the bird that flew into the side window of my Vibe while traveling through downtown Fenton, MI on the way to the meet the other weekend.

Yep, a kamikazee bird flew into the driver's side rear window and exploded into a puff of feathers. I thought that something kicked up off the road and hit the underside of the car, but my g/f saw the bird as it came toward the car. I never saw it until I looked in my side mirror and noticed the small cloud of feathers floating in the air. Gladly it didn't leave any marks on the car.

What I do not understand for the life of me is what is going on in an animal's mind when they come out in front of your car. They have the whole FRICKEN countryside to cross and they gotta decide to cross the road just as your driving past. I hit a bird... or rather it flew into us when I was driving Hope's car. Dumb bird, had the whole state to swoop over and it swooped into the front of the car... head on BAM! at 100mpr heh.Raccoons like running out in front of me to. I can see them how. "hahaha think I make him wipe out into a ditch? hehehehehe sucker! he won't wanna hit my fat (removed)... whee! haha he swirved! LOSER nah nah nah nah naaaaa nah!"

From the sound of it, I thought for sure that the thing had plastered itself all over the roof rack...but there was no lasting effect..

deer

I almost hit a deer on my way up north this weekend. My grandpa suggests deer horns. I dont know if I am down with those, however, since they look so tacky.

Here's an idea: Make like Carmaggedon and install blades, spikes and saws all over our cars so when we hit the deer it just kind of slices in half instead of damaging the car

I took the bent Vibe in today to be repaired. The bill was $2700. and some change. Hopefully, I'll have it back by the weekend all bright and shiny without any deer hairs.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation, hopefully the Vibe will be fixed-like-new by the insurance company. On the bright side, at least your Vibe can be repaired.

I think the deer horns cause more accidents with deer than not having them. When you have them on and a deer is crossing the road the first thing they do is stop. Right there in the middle of the road.We have quite a few deer here as well. Been lucky so far. Was going down an icy county road in my first car (pos tempo). Deer took off in front of me going straight down the road. His feet were spinning and my tires were skidding. Ended up just kind of pushing her for a little ways. No damage, just had to clean the deer dung of my bumper.

Everyone we've heard of with a deer problem has been lucky compared to the owner of a Vibe a friend of mine from GM Legal had to look at. The deer came through the windshield on the driver's side and killed him instantly.
