Is the GPS Coke can a spy device?

Yeah, further down in the article they basically say they're just worried about confidential meetings. That's a fairly smart security measure.. They also said they're not checking the store.. In this day and age, I think it's just MSNBC trying to stir something up. Coke, and the gov't officials they interviewed were both very smart in their remarks..Granted, it's basically a small OnStar unit.. Tho because of power concerns, i'm sure it isn't broadcasting or recieving until someone hit the button... So no button, no power. Still..pretty dumb that someone wrote that article.

Well as an employee of coca-cola I can state that that is about as dumb as anything I've ever heard. If you don't want them to drop and Equinox in your yard via helicopter that don't drink the damn things!

I haven't read the article yet, but when I first saw the Coke commercials for this promotion, I was thinking something similar. They could attach a small tracking device to the can and you would show up on a GPS map at all times. Powering it wouldn't be much trouble, it requires very little energy to transmit a receivable signal and there are already micro-engines out there that are smaller than the tip of a ball point pen that could power the transmitter for a very long time. But my problem with this is that you can easily defeat it by just setting down the Coke can and walking away or by throwing it away. If the devices transmitted for a long time, then garbage dumps would light up like Christmas trees on the GPS map.
