Rear Heat ducts ?

According to the spec sheet the Vibe has heat ducts for the rear-seat and it's on the floorBut I can't feelany air coming out of the floor in the back. Enlighten me please?thank you

When I installed my DVD/MP3 player under the passanger seat, I noticed a duct that I'm assuming is the "rear" heat duct. It only goes back about 1/2 way under the seat, so you probably won't feel a strong airflow, but it's there.

They're there. They're in the beam that the front of the front seat is attatched to. Right against the floor..if you push the front seats all the way forward you'll see it.The passenger side might not be seen because of moon&tune amp or 6disc changer..but they're there.

Ummm... not really. It doesn't mention anything about the operation of any rear ducts.

They're actually showing up in most cars these days, AFAIK...all my friends have them in their various cars (I notice little things when riding in the back), and my Sunfire had them...

So, how do I get air to blow from under the rear seat ? Also, is the duct only for heat ? or air conditioning as well ? thank you

As long as the control is on floor or bi-lev, it doens't matter if it's heat or cool, the air is flowing. Strange how I've had the car so long and have looked under the seats many times and never noticed these ducts. My next step is to fashion a plug for the front floor vents that I can use during the summer to get more air to the back passengers. It feels pretty good up front, but gets a bit stuffy in the back.

Is the air supposed to be strong ? And it's coming out underneath the seat right ? I can barely feel the air coming out but then I only have the fan on speed #2 ( the 2nd position, dial is vertical )Although I am usually the only person in my Vibe, I'd still like some air flow too.

Given the position of these ducts, I'd say it's about as strong as it's going to get. It is indeed under the seat. If you crank the fan all the way up, it's a noticeable flow. Not like the dash vents, mind you, but still fair. I'd like to get a little more out of them too, certainly for the air conditioning. That's why I'm going to try to block the floor vents in the front and see what it does to the flow from the back. I might also see if there's a way to extend the vent out from under the seat a little way. I know it's too much to hope for it to work like the rear air in my parents' Sable, since I think it was more meant to supplement the heating in the winter, but it will be fun to see what I can do.

I had a nifty idea some time ago: When it's winter, you're probably carrying around coffee or hot cocoa, and you want it to keep warm. You've also got your climate control system set to warm up the interior of the car. When it's summer, and you're pumping freon to chill yourself out, you probably want your drink cold as well.Why not open up a little vent so that air from these ducts gets routed into the center console, and escapes around the cupholders, passing by your drink container on the way? It'd be a heck of a lot more efficient than these little electric heat pumps we've been seeing, and it would place no load on your alternator.I'm sure in a few years Delphi or someone will come out with this exact concept, plastered with patent numbers and market-speak. Mark my words!

Most likely, that process would either heat up or cool off your drink too fast -- heat it up when you want it cold, cool it off when you want it hot...the air doesn't get hot enough to keep a drink warm, and would probably work opposite and pull heat away from it too fast...vice-versa for cold drinks...

I agree with Myself. it might be useful. Probably not enough demand for it to get anyone to do anything about it though. Plenty of demand for supercharger, and look how long that took (or is it still taking)Another neat idea would be to run the exhaust though some duct around a sealable metal enclosure with a thermostat, to use as an oven. Imagine taking a long road trip and having that 30 pound turkey expertly roasted when you get there.

My MX-6 had a cupholder right in front of the driver's side vent, and it worked pretty well for exactly what you're describing -- unless, of course, you had a Pepsi in the winter or a coffee in the summer!!
