So do you guys not like the styling of the GTO because it actually looks bad as a car, or do you not like the styling of it because it doesn't go well with it's name sake?Anyone who says the GTO looks terrible, would you say the same if that body style was sold as something else, and not with the GTO name?I ask this because every day I see the GTO, I crap my pants as to how awesome that thing really is. Oh, and by the way, they just started arriving in show rooms. Jim Causley pontiac here in Mich just got their first black one yesterday, and it's already sold. Imagine that.
i just think for the GTO they could have done better it kinda looks rather similar to the grand am or the grand prix i think it should be different and more groundbreaking

It's nice, just not spectacular. Nothing really stands out in the styling. I feel the 350z is a perfect example of retaining nastalgic styling while giving the car an amazing, eye catching look. I don't feel the GTO does that. It is however, very clean and a good venture for GM.
I agree with you 100% Zero. The 350z still looks just as fast and intimidating as the original 280zx. The 300zx in between also looks amazing and powerful. When you look at the new GTO compared to the old '67 or the "Judge" it's like comparing the new Chevy Malibu to the Chevelle look-a-like of the '60s...Very very disappointing. The GTO does look almost exactly like the Grand Am from what I've seen...I despise Grand Ams. The engine is nice though, so if they were to design a body that looked more like a muscle car instead of a regular, everyday car than I would like it alot more.

It is a sports sedan that is designed to hold a Corvette engine. It probably saved them millions in startup costs weither then having to build a car like that from the ground up. And it brings back the nostalgia of the classic muscle cars, unassuming looks and a huge engine.

I don't think that the new GTO looks particularly bad, just that it draws virtually 0% of its' design from the original classic dream car. Everyone who said that this new version of the car is more practical and probably performs better than the original is probably right, but there is just something extra special about the original. Also, I disagree that the original just blended in with the crowd in its' time. The GTO, Chevelle, Dodge R/T Charger, etc., were always rather easily noticable in a crowd and their perfomance was well known making cars like this very much sought after, not only today, but in their time as well. The new GTO is nice and will be a fantastic performer, I'm sure. But to resurrect the GTO name and put it on a foreign car that looks nothing like the original just doesn't seem right.

I don't mind the design - not really an old car nut anyway so not looking like the GTO of old doesn't bother me. The problem I have with it is that it 's design looks 2-3 years old, as it should I guess being based on a Monaro. From what I've heard though, Pontiac are going to redesign it in a 2-3 years - hopefully to be more agressive looking.

If they wre going to redesign (refresh) the look so soon to be more aggressive, They should have done it now instead. That way it comes out with a big bang and a cool look. I still like it though... Anyone know any new GTO forums? Or where I can find pictures of these cars at the dealers??
It sounds pretty cool, but it does look like a grand prix/grand am. I'll wait a year or two before I buy one which I definitely will since they canned the T/A. Go to the pontiac GTO website and click on "Hear it" but make sure your volume is turned up loud.http://www.pontiac.com/gto/index.jsp?source=hmlnav

Doesn't look too bad....just pictured the new GTO as not being a close replica of it's grand am/grand prix cousin. I pictured the GTO as being a little more aggressive. But that's just me!
I found some more audio clips on there site. http://www.pontiac.com//pontia....html Let the Flash app. load and scroll down to the bottom, click hear it coming.BTW: I do like it!

While getting my oil changed at the local Pontiac dealer I went for a test drive in the GTO. This is not a family car! To access the back seats you need to put the front seats all the way forward. On the side of the seat (upper back rest) there is a button to easily move the seat forward and back. I don't have to explain the LS1 (350 hp/365 lb-ft torque) with a 6 speed. Another interesting thing, the gas tank is behind the rear seat with little trunk space. I also got a quote from my insurance co. and the GTO is only $148.00 more than the Vibe for 6 mo. coverage. I am uncertain at the moment, but will wait until Dec. for the release of the 05's with the LS2. Unless they have a $4,000 incentive on the 04.

I had read somewere that they were not sure about givng it soo much power cause they didnt want it to compete agains the Corvette's sales since its the GM best Sports car. Are they upgrading the Corvettes power as well?

The GTO for 2005 and it's not the Z06 Corvette's LS6. Rather, it's a 6L derivative of the small-block Gen-III engine family. Known as the LS2, it will be rated at 400 hp and may also be shared with the upcoming high-performance Cadillac CTS-V at some point in the future.

I love the GTO just the way it is. It is simple outside, but has all the meat on the inside. THAT is what counts. You can have the nicest looking car in the world, but if it doesn't have it where it counts, what's the point?????
A bartender is just a pharmacist with a limited inventory.
I love the GTO, for the same reasons. Fairly normal car, until you hit the gas.My Pontiac dealer has 4 of them right now:Quicksilver 6-spdCosmo Purple AutoCosmo Purple 6-spdTorrid Red 6-spdThe purple looks really cool, oddly enough. The Pontiac dealer near where I work has around a dozen GTO's sitting on the lot.

The problem with the GTO is the name GTO on that car. The Holden Monaro is a great car in its own right. Its a clean and sleek design with a sporty almost fastback profile to it. It sits low and wide and has a good stance. It just doesn't look like a GTO. GTO's were muscular and very overt in their styling and the GTO is subdued to fly under the radar a little more.If they had called it something else, and not tied it to the GTO (or another muscle car name) this car would have received glowing reviews, and everyone from consumers to the automotive press would have dumped all kinds of praise on it. But calling it GTO left it open from bashing from the purists.Oh well, if they don't buy it they won't know what they are missing. They will get a GTO that looks more like a GTO once it moves to the Zeta platform in a couple years. I like it, and if it were not $33K I would really consider buying it too! Its just a few bones too much for my wallet!
I just got back from the local Pontiac dealer and whas going over some numbers ($$$$$.$$) with a salesman. The GM employee price is $29829.23, also with leasing for 36mo. at $385.08. I'm not sure if I really want to get rid of the Vibe. It's perhaps the most versatile car I have ever owned. Oh boy...what do I do?

I'm not that impressed with the GTO only because f the styling doesn't fit what I think of as a GTO, it's a sleeper, doesn't look like anything special. I won't buy one, because although I would really like the power, I don't want to give up the MPGs I get out of the Vibe. It's a money/environment thing.according to GM's June 04 sales figures, they sold 598 GTO's in July, a total of 3687 so far in 2004.

Pontiac officials say a wintertime introduction hurt the GTO's sales performance out of the gate. This may be a good thing for some of us and the GTO also is likely to be challenged later this year by the redesigned 2005 Mustang. cash back incentives! 4K would be nice.
