How much do you pay for insurance on your GT?

Post by Jwnmt »

Howdy, My GT should be delivered here in the next 4 weeks and I have started insurance shopping online. The only problem is that most companies do not list the Vibe in their online quote applications yet. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share what rates they are paying for their Gt. Any input will be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Jwnmt

Hey, congrat's on the arrival! My insurance is $765 every six months through American Family Insurance. (Of course, that's with my house through them as well).

quote:i think mine is $2350 a year through AAA, reason being new car, 20 years old, GT, full coverage cuz tha bank said so. Well that should change when you turn 21, and then 25 I believe. When I just recently turned 21, my insurance went down by $600 (!!). I was shocked and had to call them to make sure nothing was wrong with my coverage. Just to add to the discussion (I don't have a GT though so don't get upset with me ) but I pay about $537 every 6-months (full coverage w/ $250 deductible) for my Vibe Base.

Thanks for the reply. I will be turning 30 here in October so I would guess that my rates should be less than what you are paying. I really can't wait for the car to get here. I ordered an abyss GT with the moon and tunes package! Hopefully the insurance doesn't break my bank! Jwnmt

I was paying $878/year for full coverage on my old 93 Sunbird. It jumped to $1,254/year with the exact same coverage for the Vibe. I figured it would go up a little since it's a newer car but I didn't expect that much! I only pay $884/year on our 2002 Voyager. When I asked my agent why my Vibe was so much more than my larger, more expensive and just-as-new Voyager he said it was because the Vibe was too new and it was a "tall car". He said they don't know enough about the Vibe (how much it costs to fix, the type of owners and their driving styles) to know how to rate it. He also said that they consider the Vibe to be like the Rav-4 and other tall vehicles. They are rated high due to possible tip-over problems. Lastly he said the cost would likely come down in the future as more cars get on the road, more parts become available and they determine the safety of the vehicle. Just another case of the insurance companies assuming the car is unsafe first before knowing if it really is or not.

I have a vibe AWD and live in Ohio. I pay about $260 per six months, but I am also 30 years old. That is for full insurance. I saw the post about the insurance being more on vibe, that is not the case for me, I go through state farm and my insurance actually dropped vs. the 99 grand am gt I had.[Modified by neptunevibeawd, 2:51 PM 7/23/2002]

I'm payin 370(almost as much as my car payment) a month for full coverage through american family insurance on my gt. I don't have the greatest driving record and living close to chicago makes my rates higher also. I also pay a little more because i have a lava(red) vibe.

For my Base Vibe, $238 / 6mo. But I'm 36, married, two small children, living in a small town and an engineer (I guess we're supposed to be boring and not drive too fast).

I was quoted $50/month Canadian for a GT Vibe or XRS Matrix with my company group insurance. I went for the base so I expect it to be less

I still don't have the exact figure, but I'm going to roughly pay $1,300 (Canadian) per year--which is a lot, I think, as I have an excellent driving record (100% clean) and I paid a very good rate on my old car. I think the problem is that the Vibe is such a new car--in fact, I spent a considerable amount of time discussing my Vibe insurance with my broker and was told that currently it does not matter what Vibe I drive--be it base, AWD or GT, the premium is the same! The broker also suggested that since there is no crash test data on the vehicle, the insurance premiums may be thus high. In any case, I will certainly look around--although I've been with this company for about 8 years and have never been able to find a better deal.

Try going to the Motors Insurance portion of http://www.gmcanada.com. I got an estimate online for the cost of insuring my base Vibe.

I've got a base Vibe. Full insurance in kansas, through American Family, is $212/6 months. I'm 45, married, no kids, perfect driving record, and have two other cars and my house insured with them. I was told my insurance would be even cheaper when I hit 50, but then get more expensive again at 60. It's all statistics/risk factors. In my experience though, you SHOULD shop around. About ten years ago I switched companies and reduced my insurance costs by half! Some more advice.... when you register your car, if the clerk asks :"Is that like a sport utility?", say "NO, it's a little station wagon." In my county the difference is about $300/year. Station wagons much lower.

" I also pay a little more because i have a lava(red) vibe." There is no way you pay more because of color. I hope that is not what you meant.

I pay $800 every six months for full coverage on my Abyss GT with Allstate. This supposedly includes a small discount for having a Lojack. I am a 29 year old single male (any ladies in the house? ) with a clean driving record. Although I live in Miami which ranked #1 for the city with the most idiot drivers in a recent survey, so that might be why my insurance is high.
