Just ran across this article. I know it's just a tease, but the information is gnawing at my imagination, so I figured I'd share the madness with all you GT owners out there. Just don't hold your breath, for all the good that did the base guys waiting for their superchargers... http://www.autoweek.com/cat_co...59609 Just so you don't have to click the link - here is the last paragraph: The supercharger will fit the Matrix, Celica and Corolla for $2,995 and four hours labor. If you have the higher-output 1.8-liter inline four in your Celica or Matrix, you will have to wait. Your high-compression engine has proved difficult to tune reliably with a supercharger. But be patient. "We don't hate turbos," said Boler, when asked if TRD will return to the Supra and MR2 glory days. "We have a couple of turbo systems under development." "For what cars?" we asked. Boler would only say, "It's in the works." trdusa.com

ahh screw it, ill just get a cold air and exhaust and unichip and call it done for now, sereisly, i lov et he idea, friggin awesome, but i dont even have cold air, why the hell im i in these furoms, uhg
I talked to one of Gm's big shots today, about the superchargers for the GT's.He said they tried with one supercharger they blew up 3 GT engines, and at a cost of $10,000.00 for each engine. the supercharged GT is dead for this current generation. But there is a supercharger in the works for the 2008 performance vibe.

yes but was that just a supercharger, or was ita whole kit like the ones being produced(turbos) by XS, that come with low compression pistons, and all the works, if its simply a supercharger then yah, thats not gonna work, but unless GM had a hwole kit with all the extras for the engine (new fuel etc) then i dont think they did there job
The XS. SF, Blitz and other forced induction systems do not come with lower compression pistons for the 2zz and are designed for stock internals.

Yes, we get it but it can be done and did he actually tell you those motors were 10 grand at manufactuters cost. That's called being misinformed. That would be more than the rest af the car. It's less than 2k more retail than the 1zz. I'm sure they didn't use an intercooler as they never do and probably couldn't get the reliable gains they wanted without it. A turbo's a better bet for the 2zz as the boost gains are limited by the higher compression and the parasitic loss of spinning a SC would adversely effect the maximum output. You can probably only add 50HP safely with either but the the SC would bring that down to below 40 because the motor is using over 10 of those to drive the pulley and is working harder (getting hotter) to make the power. Remove the intercooler and the SC aint making usefull gains in this motor.

I'm guessing that $10K was fabrication, assembly, and prototyping one-off parts. I'm surprised it was that low, given how many months we've been waiting for some of these other shops to get around to designing 2zz kits. Did the guy actually rule out turbos? That seems to be a better route, based on the XS kit's existence. I don't suppose you have any more info on the '08? Seems like a long time to wait, but I'm still interested...

Nor do I. When you blow a motor the SC parts are or can be reused and I doubt they built 3 from scratch.
