Well my Plans for the 2005 sub woofer didnt work. The Rockford Fosgate speaker was 2 big 4 the stock enclosure. So I had to replan my install but it still came out ok. For a 8" speaker it bumps. Check out my picts
So, did you ever get the enclosure? If so, how much did it cost and what was the part number? Were you able to send the part back for a refund, or are you looking to sell it? Also, anybody seen the 2005 vibe yet? I'm interested to know if the enclosure takes up much of the room...
I am also curious as to whether or not the 2005 subwoofer encloser fit. Maybe I'd have to find a different subwoofer to use with that encloser.

Here are the Part #'s they will definitly work in an older Vibe but like I said I wanted to change the speaker and run a big amp.#88973453 Panel $140.00#88973324 Speaker $110.85Prices may differ I have an account with a Chevy dealer.
Technically it will take up space..there's a good 3-4 inches of room it's taking up on the left side. Other than that, though...

Very helpful!Could you please post some pics of what the panel and speaker parts look like, both front and back. Might give some more of us some ideas if we want to have a "factory look". Also, have you sold or returned them?? Maybe you could make one of us a deal?? Thanks!

Man, you're getting one heck of a discount. Local dealers quoted $192.77 for the speaker (pn 88973324). Definitely need to get those PNs on the official list...

I'm not looking for anything that thumps, I just want a little more from the bottom end than the factory Moon & Tunes setup currently delivers.

This is all great BUT does anybody know if you order the panel can you put in a different subwoofer and wire it up to an amp? Nobody seems to be addressing that question - can you put in a Vibe that's other than a 2005 and install another make of 8" subwoofer?I'd like to order the panel part but it's a GM special order and CANNOT be returned. Don't feel like losing $180.Please let me know. I've got JL Audio 250/1 amp and I'm just trying to decide what options I have adding a subwoffer. If I'm going to build a custom fiberglass sub woofer encloser in the spare tire area and lose my spare tire or forget any kind of subwoofer and sell the amp. I'd like to get the GM sub woofer panel.. that would be the best of both worlds but only I can add my own sub - not that factory crap.Alex

i don't see why it wouldn't fit. the rear cargo area and frame is the exact same as the 03/04. and it's just the panel, so no diff from buying a box for a sub... someone correct me if i'm wrong here.
Another question is what is the back of the sub woofer panel made of? Is it just an open plastic panel and the sub woofer gets attched to it or is it sealed for the sub woofer? Cause if it's just a panel with not enclosure behind it then you might as well just mount a couple of slimline 6" sub woofers into the rear door! Because that's about the extent of quality sound you're going to get from that GM sub woofer panel.Has anyone actually seen this GM sub woofer panel in person? Alex

good point there! i don't know if anyone has or not. i'd assume it's gonna be plastic. but could you not add some good sound proofing and padding, like dynamat? wouldn't that help w/ the sound? i don't know a whole lot about the sound proofing, audio/video stuff.
Yeah you could use dyna mat but that would keep any metal from rattling. To realy get your sub woofers to work and thump out some bass they should be sealed or even ported.Sub woofers that have low efficiency demands a very powerful amplifier and a driver that can handle a lot of power and move a lot of air (with woofers sometimes referred to as long excursion or long throw drivers). All this must be accomplished with minimum distortion. These designs are normally implemented in what are called sealed or closed box systems. ALex

i wonder if you used the front panel and then closed it and sealed it yourself.. that might work. i have an 8" solobaric kicker running off a rockford fosgate amp in a ported box. it takes up a 1/3 of my cargo space!

Why did you chose to put the fuse under the wheel cover? In most installs, if not all, it is recommended to fuse the power wire within 18 inches of the battery. Lets assume that the wire shorts out between the fuse holder and the battery, somehow. Well if you don't have a fuse under the hood your car will go up in a ball of flame. If you did fuse it under the hood, the fuse under the wheel cover is useless.

Some speakers (subs are a speaker...) are designed to be "in open air", so not all are designed for ported or sealed enclosures. It has been awhile since I was looking but true open air subs cost more than the kind for sealed or ported enclosures.

If you did fuse it under the hood, the fuse under the wheel cover is useless. As Raging said, he plans on putting a cap there. But, I raise the same concern. In ALL installs, the main fuse MUST be no more than 18 inches from the battery. If the insulation on that cable were to get nicked anywhere along the line, it could short, and cause the wire to melt, and worst-case, the battery to explode. So yes, i'd raise the same concern, make sure there's a similar fuse under the hood. It's been a while since i've seen free-air subs.. Because of the current boom in car audio, I think they've been pushed to the side, because a lot of people would rather get the box than properly mount the free-air. Pity though, because they'd work great in cars that have that back shelf..

It is simple. You have to remove the floor of the trunk and the spare tire. Then remove the 4 bolts on the pannel and pull it. There's few clips to hold it. BTW, there's not much space at this lication. The pannel is very close the the car body.
OK so I went to the dealership and listened to the stereo with the sub. It doesn't sound too darn bad for only being one 8" with a 200W amp. It has pretty good of bump without making your ears bleed. I think I might do the conversion after a little more research. It is perfect for my need for better sound, and not using up space in the back.
So, let's say you order the two necessary parts to put this into an 03 with the M&T package. Can you wire this up to the factory amp and headunit, or will you need an aftermarket amp? I'm trying to keep as much stock as I can and still get good sound. Thanks...Sean
I have been asking around off and on about this, but nobody at GM or the dealership have been very helpful. It's one of those things where somebody more adventurous than me needs to buy the parts and see if it will work. I might be almost as simple to compare part numbers for the '03 amp versus the '05 amp. If the part numbers are the same then in theory it should work.
I was at the dealer today picking up my emblems and decided to check into the amp situation. He checked the '05 amp vs. the '04 and came up with two different part numbers but here is where the interesting part comes in - the 05 costs less then the 04..... Here are the part numbers you can check yourself.... gmpartsdirect.com2004 Amp - 889730872005 Amp - 88973603I forgot to check the '03 vs the '05 but it should be similiar. We even called toyota to check the prices on the amps they install in the matrix' but the prices were ubsurd(if you can imagine that) and they were not sure if they were the same as the gm parts. Due to gm changing the part number to fit into thier system. When i checked the installation pictures they installed the exact same way. Same picture. And they both have the same connector's listed. I havent looked at the wiring diagram for the 2005 sub yet so i cant tell you for certain if the 2004 amp will work with the sub install. I will let you know when i find out tho. I am definatly going to follow through on this one. It might be a few months before i finally install though. Stupid doctor bills.
