Black Box under the trunk

Hi,I was cleaning my mags and I noticed a big black bos under the trunk of the car. I was wondering what this is, any idea anyone?ThanksJF

Left rear? I believe it is the charcoal canister, which absorbs/stores gasoline fumes from the tank and feeds them to the engine while you drive, to reduce evaporative emissions.

i think its the ABS computer and pump i think thats where all the back brake lines run too

My non-ABS Vibe has a rectangular box to the left of the muffler. I'll check for hose connections to the tank in support of my charcoal canister theory.

ABS module is under the hood by the washer fluid tank.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

Thanks MadBill, I think your reply seems to be the most relevant. As I don't have an ABS system, I don't think GM would put an empty black box for nothing.Thanks for everyone's input... I appreciate it!JF

You are correct MadBill, as has been confirmed by the service manual.
