Need Direction (new vibe questions)

Post by justb68 »

I just got my Vibe last week and we took it for a weekend trip. I love it! I just wonder if someone could point me to some threads about:CD player - I have moons and tunes and it seems to skip on several CD's that play fine on other players.Outlets - On my previous vehicle I sometimes used my cell phone charger in my car when I was at work but on the Vibe - there is no power to the outlets if the vehicle is not running. Is there anyway to change that?MPG - I now have 1200 miles on my Vibe - The first tank was at 28mpg and the second was only 26mpg. The second trip was mostly interstate so I was expecting better. We never had it over 80. Does it get better after driving it more?If anyone can send me towards some information on this site it would be greatly appreciated. (This site has been great so far!)Thanks!

Well, I can't really help you on the first 2, yes it does suck that the outlets go off after the ignition is turned off, but I can imagine that would be an easy fix. But, my MPG was a little shaky at first, but after break in, it leveled out to around 27-28 MPG. Try using midgrade gas, I have found better performance and better mileage from it. Just don't use Sunoco, their gas is by far the worst. 76 and Sheetz/Marathon seem to get the best mileage and performance.Congrats on your purchase and welcome to GenVibe.

I believe the skipping is a known issue, you might be able to get the radio replaced under warranty by taking it to the dealer and complaining. As far as the outlets go, that, I believe, is the way Toyota generally does it. There -are- ways to change it to a "power all the time", but it depends on how deep you want to dive into rewiring, and how squeamish you are about taking your new car partially apart! If you do want to modify them, let us know, and we'll find a good (and safe!) way to modify them!

Hi Justb,I bought my Vibe in January. I have the moons and tunes package, my 6-disc changer hasn't any had trouble skipping. Also, I drive about 500 miles per week, and I consistantly get 28 - 29 mpg. I haven't had any troubles so far, except for Friday, a new noise started up. It is a higher pitched, not extremely loud, but annoying noise that only happens when I turn the fan on. I'm not sure if this is a common problem or not, I'm going to get it fixed this week hopefully. Hope this helps!

I made the 12V outlet under the center armrest be on all the time in http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=6403, and enabled the 115V also, but didn't mess with the cigarette lighter 12V outlet in the dash.mileage should go up as the car breaks in, some people get worse than expected after break in, there are a large numberr of possible causes, a bunch of threads on poor mileage too, such as http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=7676. I have a 03 GT, had the stereo replaced (warranty) after about a year. Started skipping during any kind of movement. Turning, braking, acceleration. Starting to wonder if this one is going to do the same as it skipped on some not so big bumps on my trip this last week.

I had problems with my original CD player skipping. Got to the point where it would barely play, and then there was static over top of the music on most of my CD's. They didn't skip and sounded great elsewhere. That radio also had some cosmetic issues, so it was replaced under warranty. The second radio was brand-new, but had the problem where you would hear the CD mechanism grinding when braking or turning. The third radio was reconditioned, and unfortunately it exhibits some of the same cosmetic issues with the face flaking off like the original one did. But, I gave up on it, it isn't noticeable (the plastic is peeled off the raised area to the right of the volume knob where you can't really notice it from the driver's seat) and the radio works fine, so I'll just leave it.Definitely get that looked at under warranty.
