Well went to Dodge dealer last night and test drove the Dodge SRT-4 and that thing is a little beast. Its 20,995 for the one me and my bro test drove stock with 240hp but according to the dealer for about an extra $1,000 we could get the option of the stage 3 turbo kit installed by dealer and under warranty wich would bump up the #'s to around 330hp!!! the warranty is 7years/75,000miles. So I have been thinking about trading in my car for it. Not the Vibe but my 03 Alero... Still thinking about it I wonder how much insurance would be on it though compared to the Alero .. Things to think about.

Its suxs that they have a rebates on the regular neon but not the SRT-4 need to get a deal if I want to get it.

I've always liked the look of the Aleros...Just be sure you know what you're getting yourself into...I've never met a neon owner who didn't regret their decision...
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
Gm is about the Corvette and selling large volumes of cars, nothin else everyone else seems to have their own performance division ex. TRD, mazdaspeed Gm is about gross sales and maximum profits. COuld you imagine a 330Hp Vibe or Cavalier that would be sweet. But they have our money so now we don't matter anymore.

GM is trying to get towards performance. The Ion Redline might be a bad example overall, but the 200 HP Ecotec under the hood is nothing to sneeze at. That engine is also heading to the Cobalt SS S/C, which should be a lot better than the Ion dynamically. We'll have to see if GM offers hop up kits for it to make it faster. Also, they might have a 240 HP S/C or turbo Ecotec in development. That is one of the rumored powerplants for the upl evel Solstice.Speaking of Solstice, the Kappa platform has a lot of promise for many good performance cars. Hyrdroformed frame rails, all independent aluminum control arm suspension, etc.

When we test drove it they dealer said it would be about an extra $1,000 including labor so it would put the SRT-4 that I saw at 21,995+all the other stuff that gets added. None of the SRT-4's we saw had the Stage 3 kit you have to order it and have it installed on pick up or you can buy it at a different time and have them install it then. The dealer said its up to you if you want to finance the extra grand or come back later and do it when you have cash. I think its a good deal specially since it has a 7year/75,000 mile warranty. I only have 5 on my Vibe !

There's alot of those turbo charged little b*stards cruisin around my area at night. Those things sound so monsterous they have such a LOW and loud clean sound with those turbos it's erie. I got a group of 4 turbo srt-4s cruising togather on video camera, it was like a d*mn group of 3000gts drove by!
There's only Stage 1 and Stage 2 out now...The 'O4's come equipped with the Stage 1 fuel injectors, you just need to either a)swap in '03 PCM and get reflashed or buy just the Mopar '04 PCM...The Stage 2 kit is around 1,400 with Turbo Toys,(hardware other than PCM)...the Stage will require to have Stage 2 already installed...so if he was telling you $1,000 for Stage 3, well, seems like he was trying to scam ya, unless he's thinking Stage 0 is actually stage 1...you can find any and all SRT-4 info here: http://www.srtforums.com
Guys, guys, guys... Need i remind you all that the powertrain in an SRT-4 is essentially the same as a Lancer Evolution with a weaker turbo. Now keeping in mind that Mitsubishi has NEVER been known to make quality engines, would you really trust a Mitsu 4 banger with 330hp? i know i wouldn't.

Um, I don't know where you're getting info, but it's wrong...the Evo runs the famous 4G63 2.0 Liter motor, known for being pushed very hard in many of the Mitsu cars, specifically the Eclipse/Talon and several EVO models over the years. It's one of the most widely tuned and developed turbo motors around. The SRT-4 sports a 2.4 liter A853 motor. All DiamlerChrysler. The 2.4 in N/A form first showed up in the Cirrus, Stratus, and a few minivans. From there, it had boost bolted on and got slapped in the SRT-4/PT GT.As far as engine reliablity on both motors go, they're strong as heck! Both were built with major boost in mind. There are several cars in both models pushing well over 330 hp with no problems whatsoever. The 4G will laugh at 330HP on stock internals! The Neon has no problem with big boost, simply because of displacement.
Perhaps you are right about the origins of the SRT engine. My info came from a goofy looking guy working the dodge booth at the auto show, can't be sure of his credibility. However how reliable could a 300 hp 4 banger be? I suppose if the track is all it sees that would be fine, but there is no way that you can convince me that Stage-Whatever turbo kit pushing 330hp is going to last 100k miles without a rebuild. I want an engine that i know will perform for a long time if maintained properly (oil changed on time, etc.). Truthfully i have a few reservations about a 4 cyl engine that redlines at 8200 rpm with 180hp lasting to the 100k mark, but i will find that one out in time.

Time will tell...but they're built for performance, not to be a high-mileage econobox. And what about the STi? Stock putting out over 300hp in a 4 cylinder. They're not gonna launch an amazing machine with motor that'll blow in 50,000 miles with "normal wear".
