I was reading this thread.... http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=6294 and I looking into renting a car for spring break. I've never done it before. What as the best companies? Price? Quality? Btw, the way I'm under 25, if that makes a difference....Thanks for any input you give...
‘03 Vibe with 317k and still going.............................
Under 25 will make a difference depending on state and company...check out the major ones websites and look for the FAQs..they'll list if there are extra fees for under 25.Hertz, Avis, National, Enterprise...

Just as an aside, I'm looking at renting a car in colorado, and I've called 5 companies so far, and all of them say their national fleets are all automatic transmissions. Why can't you have stick shifts dammit!

anybody can drive an automatic. The last time I rented a car, they had a Vibe, but wanted more than double the price of a midsize car because to them it is an SUV. If all the cars are auto, maybe you can find an 03 auto XRS.
LOL...good call, would be nice...but unfortunately, I can't afford that...looking at el cheapo cars, i.e. suzuki swift, kia rio. Gotta conserve the funds. For any under 25 renters, the following companies WILL NOT rent to under 25:AvisBudgetHertzThe following companies will rent to under 25 for an extra $15/day fee:AdvantageEnterprisePaylessThriftyThe following company will rent to under 25 for an extra $20/dayDollarThe following companIES will rent to under 25 for an extra $25/dayAlamoNationalBTW: Alamo wanted to rent me an Aveo! ROFL!

And since Enterprise is cheap anyway their additional $15 seems cheap. Of course I am "way over 25" but when I needed to rent a car for a week waiting for a new one to arrive (sold my used one) I get a great deal on Alamo via their internet site. Also - usually the off-airport sites are a better deal. Never tried the "Rent-a-wreck" alternatives.

Actually, enterprise had one of the highest rates of any of the companies I checked.I will either be renting from Advantage or Dollar, they both had rates in the 170s for a compact car...
