That's right. The cigarette lighter in my VIBE is stuck in the socket. I can't get it out to charge my cell phone or anything. It still works, as in, if you push it all the way in, it gets hot and pops out, but it won't release from the socket. Anyone else had this problem, or any solutions? Thanks.
I never had that problem. Did you try twisting it a bit? pull on it really hard? Was anything strange done or plugged in that may have bent something causing the lighter to stick?
Mine will do that on occasion and it's a confirmed problem from GM. They apparently had to redesign the clips inside the cig lighter socket to prevent that from happening. If you cannot remove it, take it into the dealer and have it replaced with the newer one. When mine gets stick, sometimes I have luck by twisting and pulling at the same time.. sometimes, I'll just give up on it, try it again in 10 minutes and it comes right out. No set way to get it out of there. This should help and is in the same ballpark for replacement:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=10144
I had a similar problem a few weeks ago. After I used my cell phone charger in the socket, the socket would pull partially out of the dash. It did this for a few days with the lighter in it, and now doesn't do it anymore. I admit that I play with the lighter while I drive (mainly pulling it out and pushing it back in, not far enough to activate it, but to where it normally rests).
I have the same problem....the whole socket pulls out of the dash. I usually keep one finger on the socket itself to give a bit of pressure. The lighter will usually pull right out then.
I had the dealer replace mine yesterday under warranty. Here's what they put in it, if anyone needs the part numbers:88972603 LENS94855418 LIGHTER ASSY.94853080 RETAINER

Get a pair of channelocks, grip the lighter tightly, place your foot on the dashboard, and pull until the lighter comes out. Repeat as necessary.Or you can take the easy way out and have the dealer fix it.
I do the same thing - with one hand, try to hold the socket, while twisting and pulling the lighter with the other hand. I believe that this is a Toyota problem, as it occurs in my wife's RX 300.
wow i finally found the reason GM decided to go the cheap way and not include the center console outlet on the newer vibes....they had to spend to much on fixing the cigarette lighter....i only used my lighter once to make sure it worked....i think it did....not sure where it is now....think its in the glove box with the user manual...
