Guess what came in the mail today! Two very thick books (one about 3" thick, the other about 2" thick). WOW! There is a TON of great info. Well worth the price for someone who likes to do their own work.

Hey, I opened my new Helm manual today, and so far I'm disappointed. OK, so Pontiac is allowed to re-name and re-number everything Toyota makes. I know I have a 2ZZ engine (Toyota's number for the high-output version), but is it a LNK or LV6 according to Pontiac? Check the specs listed for both, and they are identical! Did they just duplicate the chapter? Likewise for the MK5 and MTN transmissions -- both show a 5-speed shift pattern. Look up any of these three letter acronyms in the abbreviations table, and none are listed! Various diagrams are mislabeled, and the general information section includes information on english fasteners! Tell me why I shouldn't ask for my money back...

Those codes are GM RPO codes (Regular Production Order):LNK = 2ZZ-GE (GT motor)LV6 = 1ZZ-FE (base motor)MK5 = ???MTN = ???MN6 = 6-speed manualMM5 = 5-speed manualMX0 = 4-speed auto

Well, the TLA's are not defined under "Abbreviations and Meanings". but now I see they are defined under "RPO Code List". Seems I have the MTN, but the engine designation is still fuzzy -- do I have HO or MFI? And why do both show the same bore diameter? BTW, the transmission codes are MM5 and MN6 "Merchandised transaxle" but MK5 and MTN "transaxle" are used for chapter headings respectively in the service manual. Clear yet?

What is "TLA"? Where do you see that?HO stands for High Output. The GT's 2ZZ-GE engine is the HO engine.MFI is Multipoint Fuel Injection. Both engines are MFI.

Since you get the service manual, can you tell me if there is any pre-wired connections for a "remote power lock" for the rear hatch (door or/and rear window). I don't have the power package and want to install a remote switch in order to unlock-lock the rear hatch. What do you suggest for this?

First, TLA = three letter acronym.Second, hoo boy! Adding a remote unlock without the factory option looks like a major undertaking, even with the circuit diagrams. It is hard to tell from the diagrams what is standard and optional as far as wiring and connectors, but there would be a motor and switch for interior lights in the rear hatch. The motor is controlled by pin 2 on connector A (Connector 2 by GM's naming conventions) of the "integration relay", a big sucker under the dash beside the fuses. It drives a couple different optional systems. My advice is sell the car and buy one with the power option...

I agree. I don't think it will be an easy install at all. The service manual doesn't say if non-power cars have the optional wiring. I doubt it since it costs money to add unused wires. My advice: trade it in and get one with the power package.

Well, there is a chance all the wiring is there and you just need the remote. How does the glass open without the power package? Seems to me it would need the motor anyhow. Probably at least need to add the receiver, located in the right rear if you believe the manual, which I don't.Digging a bit deeper, I trust the Vibe service manual even less. It seems they use "Multi-function Alarm Module" as the name for Toyota's Integration Relay. But elsewhere they use the Toyota name and say it is located above the glove box. Nope, pretty sure that is the Engine Control Module, which GM renames to "Powertrain Control Module". This is GM's idea of value-added??

Thanks guys, I'll keep my Vibe the way it is for now then will check for local aftermarket (even junk yard if there's any vibe yet). I'll tell... the kids to unlock the hatch if needed. LOL

I just ordered Hotchkis sway bars and will attempt to install myself. If someone with a manual could scan and send me the pages related to that part of manual (front sway bar only) I would be grateful. nfrosty@charter.net

Looks like Helm now has the 2004 service manual in stock, still $120. http://www.helminc.com/helm/pr...76NJ0A list of all of the Vibe info they sell is http://www.helminc.com/helm/Re...76NJ0There have been a number of 2003 manuals on ebay lately, there's one today where the high bid is only $9! Maybe the 2004 manuals coming out are freeing up a bunch of 2003 versions.

Any chance the manuals explain how to adjust the valves. Engine is standard version and engine noise seems to be increasing. Owners manual says to adjust at 60,00 miles and I have about 40,000. Does it require any valve cover gaskets. Thanks
