Door Seal Leak Test

Post by JohnC »

Found one very small leak in the driver’s door seal (right next to my ear) using the “flame method” worked really well. Put car inside garage with no air movement, roll up all windows, turn to outside air and put fan on high. From the outside run the flame around all seal areas, when flame flickers or gets blown out you found a leak. I used this foam rubber tape on the backside of the seal to build it up so it fits better. Oh yeah...here is he disclaimer. FIRE IS HOT, do not burn yourself or start an unwanted fire.

First preference would be to place it behind or sanwiched between the existing/leaking seal. Could not do either in this case, so that leaves placing it onto the facing metal surface. This works, but it is annoying to see it. Still beter than bending the window frame in. In the pic it is just right of Gingers head on the inner window frame.
