I've cast my vote today

I hope this post doesn't violate the non political posting rule.I just wanted to mention that I've just casted my vote for the upcoming federal election in Canada by mail.I decided to vote by mail for a couple of reasons, one just to be different from most people I know, second I hate lining up at a polling station during the day of the vote. This way I don't have to waste time during my day to go to do my civic duty.Regardless on who or how you decide to vote, I just wanted to encourage those of you who are eligible to vote.Admittedly the choices are hardly stellar, but this is our chance to do something other than to bicker about our elected officials.This thread by the way is in no way an invitation to discuss political viewpoints, parties, or candidates so please refrain from making coments in that vein.

that's a good idea... avoid the long lines and mail in your vote. too bad you can't do it like american idol and send via text message! j/k. that would be a huge security risk, not mention extremely inaccurate!

Herb was it a long process to vote via mail? Did they ask a lot of questions, filll out forms etc?

We have Canadian Idol...I got a vote card in the mail the other day, saying I was registered. I don't know who to vote for... depends on who the lesser of two evils is I guess.

I feel badly for you that you have to wait in long lines to vote. When I go home to vote, there is usually hardly anyone there and the longest I think I've ever waited was about 2 minutes. The long lines would definately suck. Here, we can only vote by mail by absentee ballot, and you must meet certain criteria to be elegible to vote that way.This is a good thread and I'm glad to see people encouraging others to go out and vote. I wish that more people here in the US would take a little time and inform themselves on issues that are of importance to them and get out and vote for people who best represent their views. I really feel that our government would be better if more people would learn and participate. Sometimes it seems like the only people voting are the elderly, activists, and counter-activists. No wonder hardly anything ever gets accomplished in our government anymore.

Good deal Herb, nothing will improve without the general population getting involved. I am pretty lucky here in Arizona; we can just order our ballots over the internet fill them out and mail them in. I vote in every election that I am eligible for. Guess I would be in the "activist" list.

I've also voted in every election I could. I've usually lived in a pretty small town at the time, and the wait is very short. Except the one time when there was only 1 voting booth ... there was one guy ahead of me.I think the lines at the advance polls are also often shorter, but not every polling station has the advance poll option.Get out there and vote!!BTW, there are at least 6 candidates in my riding! I've never seen that many! PC, NDP, Liberal, some Christian party, and 2 independents. Those are just the ones that have put brochures out.

No, JohnC, I would consider you and I to be in the "counter-activist" group. Without delving any further into this under the site ban of free speech, I'm sure you can figure out what I mean.It should go without even saying that I too have voted in every election that I was elegible to vote in.
