I'm in Canada, Working for AT&T Canada for 2 years now and in the telecomunication industry, it is like a nightmare. In the last year the lay off about 20% of the staff. I could be laid of in few month if the situation stay as is. I know it is not better no other companies. Nortel Networks cuts most of their employes. In USA, Worldcom and other telecom cie are cutting a lot of job.Any other Vibe owner are in the same situation as me?What do you think about telecom crash down?
I was layed off from Flotrinics Inc. in Michigan...so I joined the AirForce.Cant get rid of me, there isnt enough of us here! Sorry to hear about the lay-offs. I feel ya....

Yes you're wright, there's job in tlelcom, but no as a technician. There's some jod as a clerk or in sales (the one who bug you when he all you to give the lastest package offer form their cie)For now, it is very hard to find out a job in a telecom cie as a tech.
Contact them anyway. There are jobs from time to time, but they go fast. The best time to get in is in the spring when things are busiest. Then try to manoever around to stay on steady. In the past year there has been a 2% growth in head count to conteract a 5% attrition rate, not counting summer students. Don't give up yet. What are your credentials, education etc.?

I did collegial studies in general electronics. Working for ATT for 2 1/2 years. For now I have a job, but I'm border line if the management go ahead will lay off.For sure if I loose my job, I will send my CV to Bell (unless I don`t like very much this company).Anyway, if I leave ATT, I will send my CV to Bell, Telus and if possible to Hydro-Quebec (yes, they have communication technician at Hydro).I hope I will keep my job, and if I loose it, I'm not very worried about this. I got some contact in differents companies and I can find out a job easily (no sure in telecom but in electronic).
From the thread What do we all do for a living?quote:What departement. May be we talk each other..... I'm in the Montreal SMC, voice and data maintenance. We did discuss our jobs a little before in this thread.I am what Bell calls a Tester or Business Technician. In Toronto a tester would be focused on particular customers, in Northwestern Ontario you handle everything, Residential, Single and Multiline Business, Coin, Radio Services.... I primarily scrutinize the tickets the field techs return for errors, correct billing as well as ensure tickets are where they are supposed to be. It is a feast or famine operation. Currently we are starving (winter) but in the summer we are very busy. I still think you should put your resume in. The testers down south call us to assist in their areas from time to time.
