EDIT: As a matter of fact, call and ask them how much it would cost to upgrade to a lower deductible - usually doesn't cost much, and they'll spread the AP (additional premium) evenly between your remaining installments, then file a claim in a couple of weeks . EDIT 2: I just noticed that he called the Ins. Co. already, so this probably wouldn't work

I had to switch to Geico down here in GA because it was actually MORE to insure with Allstate. Though that was because they had to double my coverage. GA requires 25k, 50k, 25k, whereas NJ is more like 12k, 20k, 12k. So the rates are less, but I need more coverage...bleh.

Not to beat a dead horse, but be sure you've checked the Comprehensive deductible section of the policy, not the Collision. Unless your windshield cracked during an accident, it should be covered as a Comp loss, not Collision.A Comp deductible of $500 sounds kinda high, but I'm in the midwest, not Jersey. Mine is only $100 Comp deductible, $500 Collision deductible.IMHO most insurance agents don't do a good job of explaining what the coverages are, and how little EXTRA it costs to get ADEQUATE coverage, vs. MINIMUM coverage. Another unfortunate fact of life is that those with the greatest risk factors are usually uninsured.By sharing the risk & cost of accidents with a large pool of drivers, insurance is designed to protect you from very large losses (e.g. total loss of your vehicle), not EVERY loss (e.g. door ding in the parking lot).

I don't know the details of Mike's policy, but from what i've gathered, it's under his parents' control, so they might've upped whatever deductables they could... dunno though.Mike, i'd say follow that advice, see if it fits into comprehensive..since it's not really a collision..

Mine just took a hit under the passenger side windsheild wiper, now the crack has spread all the way to the drivers side. I was so pissed off didn't even notice till my wife pointed it out, I hate all the gravel they put down and take so long to clean up the impact from the rock chipped a spot I didn't even notice from inside the car so now way of knowing till it was too late. Going to get an estimate of how much it is to replace hopefully not too much.

That's NUTS! I got my glass replaced within 2 days of my call to the dealer...anything over a week, by my standards, is unacceptable...

I've got the same crack in the same location, except on the driver's side under the windshield wiper. It's in the second week of June - they're not taking the gravel up this year in Calgary, no question about it.
