Just wondering if anyone has installed a DVD player and monitor in their Vibe. I have looked at the center plip down types, but don't think that they would be comfortable for the young'uns to look up at all the time. So i decided to get 2 Headrest mounted monitors with a player mounted under one of the front seats. Any ideas out there that I might not have thought of?Thanks in advance!
I know maddigital on matrixowners has a blow-your-mind setup. Monitors in each headrest, one in the hatch area (for theater-style viewing when parked) and one in the dash...Reach out for him, I"m sure he can give you some tips...he even has xbox hooked up...
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
The main issue with the headrest monitors, if you don't get something like the Myron & Davis pre-built headrests, you're really leaving it to the installer to do a good job. Actually..the main issue is if you don't have a screen that tilts inside the headrest mount. Without the tilt, it'll be more uncomfortable than a flipdown. Depending on who's sitting in the front seat, and how it's tilted back, will determine visability and image quality (not every screen is as good as the next)The overhead flipdown will have some advantages, depending on the model. Most newer ones have the DVD player built into the overhead unit, which makes it convenient to change discs. Some of them even swivel, as well as tilt, in case there's only one person in the back. Also, some overhead systems, such as the Panasonic PKGAV1 (9") comes with two cordless headsets, and the Audiobahn overhead system (8") has headsets, and the FM Modulator so it'll play through the stock radio system. All of this is available via Circuit City (I work there, remember!). Some of the newer systems, such as the LiquidVideo systems, are cheaper than $1000, and CC video install is typically $150 for the labor.Depending on the headrest screens, I'd say go with the overhead. It won't be as uncomfortable as you think, depending on the unit you get. You'd probably want to stay at 7" or 8" sizes, as much larger than that will look REALLY big at night, and be overly bothersome to those watching. Those're my two-cents, as an installer. Also, another REALLY good reason for an overhead. Someone walking past your car when parked is less likely to notice it. I've seen quite a few headrest systems stolen out of cars, and very few (maybe one) overhead monitors stolen. So the theft thing is another consideration.

Yeah, I thought of that one too.. but I think he's more interested in the rear-seat entertainment. I'm personally saving up to modify my stock Nav system to do video..
