I would have taken that bet, but as it is - we were both wrong! Well, half right, in that we both knew the score. Do I get the edge since Richards assisted on both goals? So, as we predicted and as something like 82% of fans voting on a TSN poll preferred, the Flames will meet the Lightning. Should be exciting, fast-paced hockey. We'll see St. Louis, Stillman and Dingman excited to prove what the Flames overlooked in them by trading them away.Tampa's got the offensive advantage with more balanced production throughout their lines, and have more speed on the whole. However, the physical edge, a playoff-friendly system, goalkeeping (the most important factor most argue) and the 7th man are on the side of the Flames. Bring it on! Can't wait for Tuesday!
Well it will be a fast paced game between Tampa and Calgary as both teams are known for their speed. But I think that the advantage will be in Calgary's favor.....with Kipper in the net. Habi I feel is not near his best. It will definetely be a great series. I predict.....Calgary in 6.

Interesting, I've just been looking over Khabibulin's playoff stats and he's actually leading Kiprusoff in GAA (1.69 to 1.90) and save % (.939 to .930), although they're very close. On the other hand, Kipper's played 4 more games and faced 136 more shots than Khabibulin, they're tied with 4 shutouts and have nearly identical save %. Should be quite a match-up.I also would take into account that the #6 seed Calgary beat three division winners in the playoffs, including the President's Trophy winner, whereas Philadelphia was the only divisional winner Tampa had to face, themselves the #1 seed in the East. Kiprusoff's opponents have been much more highly-ranked over the 19 games he played in net - I would have liked to see Kipper's stats if he had to deal with the offence of the Islanders and the Canadiens rather than the Canucks and the Wings (who were second only to Ottawa for goals scored in the regular season). My point being.... Calgary in 6.

Personally I think hockey is rigged... its all about making as much money from those watching as possible.Take the Stanely Cup Finals into 7 games, OT as much as possible. Goalies are like gods one game and complete jack asses the next. From playing an awsome game to playing like crap. The big wigs finally realised most of canada just didn't give a crap once the last canadian team was out so this year its different. Canada has been watching the last hope now until the the very last game has come. People were growing tired of the big paid teams always winning. "Oh its Detroit? big whippie." or same with the Stars and all those other teams that have had the cup several times in the past few years.People root for the underdogs, the less then likely to win. the under paid and underestimated. People will watch those people and cheer them on. Hockey, the canadian game will stay aflame as long as we have a reason to watch it and we do. We got the flames who are our last hope till next year.Obviously its a system of names drawn from a hat as to who gets the furthest this year. I think the Leaf's need to pick someone else to draw the placement cause we have not had a lot of luck since before I was born.Having said my theory and believing that its not just money and skill that win games... could be luck/determination or draw from a hat...GO FLAMES GOOOOOO!!!!!And to the pissed off american who didn't like that I said it was about time for Canada to bring the cup home and told me to f*ck off as per an IM... kiss my canadian (removed)

Hey gang, good game tonight. Not a classic, and I think both the teams looked a little surprised by each other - Tampa obviously getting the worst end of it. Tampa had all the pressure in the 1st period, and the Flames were lucky to come out of it a goal up. Both teams were running around seemingly trying to make a point of hitting each other without making sure it was the most responsible defensive play.Luckily, the Flames D looked better as the night went on, and although there were rough spots, they seemed to grow more calm with every minute. Those Tampa forwards are exceptionally good at their off-puck movement though - they don't just stand in front of the net to crash and bang, but cycle throughout the zone like crazy.Khabibulin looked shaky, Kiprusoff looked awesome. And hey - if that's the best power play in the league, maybe going to the box every so often isn't such a bad thing? Just kidding, although 3 chances for Clark and 2 for Iginla (1 resulting in the goal) is a pretty impressive penalty kill. However, they won't be able to do that all series and their best chance at beating the Lightning in the long run is to stay the heck outta the penalty box.My favorite part of the game was hearing the Tampa Bay fans booing after an unsuccessful power play in the second period. And hearing more booing in the third. I just keep thinking about how it took about 10 sec. for the "Go Flames Go" chant to start up in Game #4 vs. San Jose - the second loss in a row at home - when the Sharks had the game well in hand scoring 4 unanswered. With 5 minutes left in the game and the result well in hand for the Sharks, did the fans boo? Nah, instead, we elected a rousing chorus of "Flames in Six!" Prophetic, wasn't it? BELIEVE!
Well for some reason Keely has not been posting.....so my turn! Game 2 was...well....not good. Simple as it gets. Tampa came out on all cylinders and Calgary just looked flat. Hence why T.B. won 4-1.Game 3....completely different story. Calgary played there game....hard hitting and in your face. And the Iginla/Lecavalier fight 6 minutes with Iggy winning definetely helped Calgary get the boost that they needed. Another shutout for Kipper....who has once again after a big loss come back and stoned the opposing team. Chris Simon definetely was up to the challenge scoring the first goal...which proved to be the game winner. Shean Donovan scoring on the 2 on 1 in the second iced for the flames. And then to cap it off....Iggy getting a goal to get the "Gordie Howe Hatrick".Can't wait for Game 4....should be a "Rock 'em, Sock 'em" game.

This game is the moment of truth for both teams. It is now a a best of 3 sereies. Too bad the Flames are head hunting. They know they can't match up line for line so they are resorting to a very physical game to even things out. Don't be surprised if Tampa comes out with the Roy, Dingman line to rough some people up in the first minutes of the game. If anyone thinks that hit by Ville Nieminen wasn't dirty. He sized Vinny up put an elbow in the back of his head and drove his skull into the boards. The Iginla yells at him top stop faking it..... I expect blood tonight, and their on our ice.

I'm baaaaaccckkk!!! Luckily, I was able to see periods #2 and #3 of Game 3 and all of Game 4 while in Cali so I'm fully up to speed.Niemenen'(removed) was definitely illegal and a dumbass, and noone disputes that there should have been a penalty. The question is whether it should have been 2 or 5 minutes. The hit was at a fairly slow speed, and Lecavalier might want to do up his chin strap for the next two games of the series. He then did a fantastic acting job by dropping like a rock and then bouncing back up seconds later and skating happily towards the bench. That's what Iginla was pissed at, and rightfully so. If you want to know one of the reasons why Lecavalier is not on the World Cup team - that's your answer. Now, contrast that to Stillman'(removed) on Nilsson in Game #1, which wasn't even penalized - now you see how righteously incensed Flames fans are at the referees' prosecution of their team and protection of the Tampa Bay Princesses. How do we match up line for line? I think the fact that the Flames have outscored the Lightning in this series and the only goal scored in the Tampa victory in Game 4 was on a 5-on-3 is ample evidence that both teams match up very well to each other.Dingman? We traded Dingman away to Colorado for a bag of pucks because he lost every fight he ever took on - when he got forced into it. I'll take any of our non-enforcer-type fighters (Iginla, Ference, Commodore) ahead of Roy, and then there's Oliwa and Simon. Don't even bother showing up to the ring.slbpsi63, there should be no blood on the ice tonight. The Flames are too smart, picking their spots to fight and intimidate with expert timing. When we fight, we win, simple as that. Contrast that with the net result of Lecavalier's fight with Iginla in Game 3 - Lecavalier went on in that game to be a non-presence for his team that got shut-out. Iggy had the vaunted Gordie Howe hat trick and dominated the game. But if either team is dumb enough to give away a pivotal Game 5 by taking dumb penalties, they deserve to lose the Cup. Niemenen is probably out for the series thanks to Lecavalier's fine acting, and Sutter will have laid down the law on his charges. So the Princesses might draw some blood, but we'll take the victory.

Quote, originally posted by silverawd26 »Welcome back Keely.Just one quick comment here on Niemenen, He is a talented, but dirty player. I do not think he is any better than Claude Lemieux and I surprised the NHL will not suspend him as a repeat offender (trying to hurt someone), not same act against a goalie or boarding. Should be a good game tonight, the series is finally starting to tighten up. That might be a fair comparison with Lemieux, although I'll hate for it to be true. I'd like to see a career stat table comparing players who've injured others - Darcy Tucker, Bryan Marchment, Claude Lemieux... remember Uwe Krupp? Now, he should have been called the Terminator with how many careers he ended. The problem for Niemenen (who has been suspended for one game) is precisely that he is a repeat offender. I'm sure that's why the NHL disciplinary committee found that hit to be more severe than any of the others. Regardless, Lecavalier will be in the lineup tonight, right as rain - until Iginla gets his hands on him. (Notice I said hands, not stick or anything like that.)I think more than the series tightening up is that it's finally getting ugly. Not necessarily a good thing, but it's part of playoff hockey. It's going to be a question of discipline and guts. Bring on Game 5, baby!
Hey......I am just going to be simple and straight forward about this. Lecavalier has a target on him now.....and I guarantee somebody on that flames squad is going to hit him.....cleanly....and knock some sense into him. He just better keep his head up.

nieminen suspended you know, i bet jerome ignilla is really pissed at him! this could cost them the cup for his stupid hit! that's just not playing smart! i'm rooting for the flames, but that was a low blow that may cost us the much needed win!
Quote, originally posted by silverawd26 »See, I thought he should of gotten a more severe punishment.I thought in the NHL Rules, it states any player who gets two game misconduct penalties in the playoffs gets an automatic 1 game suspension, which Ville has obtained. To addition of that, he is a repeat offender in my eyes and should of been given a more severe penalty, but the fact that Vinny was able to come back to the game plays a big role on the punishment the NHL handed out I guess.Yes, and apparently if you don't complain about vicious hits, the Disciplinary Committee won't worry about the hit at all - as Colin Campbell explained to the GP in an interview today. Since Sutter instructed his team to take the high road about Stillman's feet-leaving, elbow-tossing, ear-cutting hit in Game 1, Campbell wasn't bothered to review it. But if you whine and complain about a low-speed hit and your player makes the most of it and acts like he's been shot, that warrants a hearing and a suspension.Tampa's been whining since before the series began. Calgary's too dirty, they play the trap, they clutch and grab, they hit too hard, whine whine whine. Meanwhile, Calgary has put up with the exact same style of play in their opponents, a slush pond they call hockey ice in the away games, and poor officiating in Game 2 and 4 (coincidentally, the games they lost) - and until now, didn't utter a word of complaint. Sutter's press conference today was the first time he's said anything less than what indicates the utmost in sportsmanship, but I think the gloves are off for him as much as it is for his team, now that he sees that a stiff upper lip has cost his team under the current state of affairs in the NHL.Quote »COACH SUTTER: ...Was it shocking to you that they suspended him? No. It wasn't to us either. As I said, we have seen it all through the Playoffs. We have lost three players total to injuries that there was a total of two minutes called; not -- that's as far as it went. So fine, we know what we're up against. We're the underdog. We've said that. I am not saying it now to make a point, but it's dead on true. We're the little team that wasn't supposed to be here and a lot of people don't want us to be here and to make sure that we're not successful. We know that.Q. You say the decision was made in New York; not Toronto, but you did talk to Colie --COACH SUTTER: Hey, the media is a powerful tool, believe me. And it's unfortunate that's what ends up -- you know, I hold myself responsible because I don't ***** and whine in the media. I don't let our players talk about officiating in the media. You know, it would be better off making headlines about other incidents and I don't. We never complained about -- quite honest, a lot of you guys didn't even know about some of the injuries until the next day, and you don't know their bad hits until we bring it up after the fact. So, that's something I have learned that you should ***** and complain and whine and it has an impact.Still, we'll take it all. Adversity has made a better team of the Flames, and will make that Game 6 cup win all the sweeter.
Tampa hasn't been the only team complaining about the mugging your team has been putting on in the playoffs. Vancover, San Jose and Detroit all were very vocal about your boarderline thugish play. Sutter himself has said the only way were can win the cup is to play this type of hockey. The one game that in the series that you tried to skate with the lightning ended in a 4-1 romp that made the Flames look like a bunch of sore losers. Game 1 was lopsided due to tampa being exhausted from the Philly series, not becuase you out skated us. Yes we've had one dirty hit, but the Flames are gunning for peoples heades, Pratt got cross checked in the face last game, Marty St Louis looks like he is in a wrestiling match everytime he enters the offensive zone, and there is more. I love physical hockey the series against Philly was phenominal, but the Flames have taken it to a level that is bad for hockey. The only way skill can be defeated is by braun, the Flames are proof of that. ITs now a 3 game series on our turf and we have home ice advantage for the rest of the series. I'll take those odds. Actually I hope we win the cup in Calgary, so you can see a respectable hockey team hoist the cup

I hate to break it to you but the Flames are kick a$$ on the road.....not a good thing for Tampa that is for sure. And of course St. Louis is going to look like he is in a wrestling match....he is a smaller, quicker skater and any smart defenceman knows that the only way you are going to slow him down is to tie him up. And if you don't like the physical play of the Flames......take up another sport......like bowling. Gees......hockey is a physical game. Some of the best series were the physical ones such as Colorado vs. NJ back a couple of years when Bourque retired after winning the Cup..now THAT was a series. And the scores were low also....because of the phenomenal goaltending between Roy and Brouder.A respectable team?? I don't think so.......unless you call a bunch of whiny crybabies respectable.

ummmm look at Tampa's home record in the playoffs. Bowling? Is that what there is to do in Canada in the summer when there is no hockey? Oh wait you have rodeo's... SWweet I'm packing my bags here I come LOL. I said I like physical hockey, did you miss that sentence? We are sick of everyone looking down on us here. Football, girls in bikini's, Baseball, girls in bikini's, Fishing, girls in bikini's I think you get my drift. 75% of Tampa are northern transplants from NY, MI, OH, NJ. So to say we don't know the sport.... whatever. If you want listen to our sports radio and see how much we know feel free. http://www.620wdae.com. P.S. The crack at the begining of my post was jsut for fun, I know that Calgary has a beautiful city. We've seen plenty of coverage down here to notice that. I was just having fun

Frankly i don't care who wins this year but most of the Calgary fans are moaning over nothing....The hit on Lecavalier deserved a major & suspension for two reasons:1. Rule 44 Boarding (a) A minor or major penalty, at the discretion of the Referee, based upon the degree of violence of the impact with the boards, shall be imposed on any player who checks an opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to be thrown violently in the boards.(NOTE) Any unnecessary contact with a player playing the puck on an obvious "icing" or "off-side" play which results in that player being knocked into the boards is "boarding" and must be penalized as such. In other instances where there is no contact with the boards, it should be treated as "charging."(b) When a major penalty is imposed under this Rule for a foul resulting in an injury to the face or head of an opponent, a game misconduct shall be imposed.(c) Any player who incurs a total of two (2) game misconducts for Boarding under Rule 44 (b), in either Regular Season or Playoffs, shall be suspended automatically for the next game of his Team. For each subsequent game misconduct penalty the automatic suspension shall be increased by one game.(d) When a major penalty is imposed under this Rule, an automatic fine of one hundred dollars ($100) shall be imposed. Don't whine and tell me he didn't do anything wrong when the other guy is bleeding from the side of the head...and as for the suspension I applaud the NHL. I thought they would be too chicken to do that considering this is a finals but they didn't.
