I wish I had another gear!

Post by 03VibeGT6Spd »

I love the 6 speed transmission, But it sure would be nice if it had 7 gears or they made 6th more of an overdrive.I hate looking down at the tach on the highway. Thinking if it was only 2000rpms lower I wouldn't have to stop so often for over priced gas.Even better make it an 8 speed and add a dog for the upper and lower gears. Damn I miss driving BIG trucks! I'm on the highway alot. I also wish 6th were about 10% taller. You don't need it for anything but cruising and it would make it alot more relaxed over 70mph.

Most of us 1ZZ pilots would love to have the launch and acceleration in the lower gears of a 6 speed with the economy of the 5 speed final drive ratio . Bet it could be done by combining bits of both. Conversely, a base FD could probably be swapped into a GT

It would be great if Toyota raised first 5% dropped the final 5% to compensate and raised 6th 10% (effectively 5% more) or more for cruising. This would also make reverse lower, keep you in lift on all shifts, help mileage, decrease 0-60 times and pull second better out of a slow corner. We would probably lose 5 or so mph off our top speed which I will probably never test but you would get up there faster.
