Taking the Vibe camping!

Post by ebslopp »

Well everything is packed up. I leave tomorrow at 4:30 to go for the traditional Memorial Weekend camping trip. The Vibe was really easy to pack everything in. I've got two big coolers, a tent, two bicycle wheels, sleeping bags, air mattress, and lots of campsite toys in the rear hatch. On the top, I've got two bikes and I'm going to try to fit a canoe too. I'll be picking up the canoe tomorrow afternoon. I'll be sure to take pics as I'm sure it will look pretty cool!

Went camping a few weeks ago in mine! Slept really well in the folded down seats/rear area. I did not take nearly as much as you are since my buddies had everything taken care of, plus they lived an hour from were we camped and I lived 9 hours away. Great times

I agree, for Camping the Vibe can hold a ton of gear. What is the most stuff anyone has crammed into their baby?Last weekend I moved out my Brother who had been crashing in my basement. We packed My Vibe to burst with the seats down, ontop of a full interior load he also had a Double size Futon and Double size matress. Can you guess where those went??? I surprised him!Yep, I was able to pile the lot (Futon base included) onto the Roof. Raised my height buy about 4 feet. You should have seen the looks of other motorists as we drove by, dropped jaw. Talk about a rolling Vibe commercial. We only had to go about 20KM across town so we never got over 60KM/H. Aside form the increased wind drag, My Vibe hardly noticed the load.I'll tell you though, after doing that, I was trully impressed by the cargo hauling capability of this Auto.

Very cool! Have fun camping. The wife and I are taking the Vibe down to Wyalusing State Park on June 4th. I bought a 2 bike carrier for the back end, it's pretty sweet. Where are you going camping?

Well camping was very wet and cold. It never stopped raining and it was between 45 and 55 degrees the whole time. I had fun anyways. Here are some pics I took along the way.

Yes we did the the canoe off. We canoed for a ten-mile stretch down the Eau Claire River. Here's the Vibe waiting at the end...

If you go for a hike, occasionally you'll come accross a ski lift. Very scenic. Some of the sites overlooked the city of Wausau. Very beatiful at night. Next time I'm going to try for one of those sites.

I didn't actually need them. I used two straps to secure the canoe. Front ropes are tied to the towing points in the front. In the back, I had to get creative as there isn't an easy place to tie to. I just wrapped it around the piece connecting the bumper to the chassis. It took us a good hour to get both the bike and the canoe on at the same time. In the end, we decided it wasn't safe and we put the bike on a different car. But still, the photo is impressive. The canoe is a very very wide 14ft. It's as wide as the car!

you don't think there would be a problem with the front of the canoe lifting on the highway with only the cross straps across the middle?i think i agree with your wife in adding those front ropes to keep the nose of the canoe down!

I know there wouldn't be a problem with the front of the canoe lifting up. I picked it up from my brother-in-law's house, and drove 35 miles back home with only the straps on. I was surprised at how well the canoe stayed in place.

I go camping all the time, the Vibe really doesn't hold more stuff than a car can.Unless I have way too much crap.

When my wife and I go camping, we take all our mountain biking gear too. I love how much stuff I can put in and on the Vibe. It's amazing.
