I have a 2003 GT. I rarely accelerate quickly but on occasion when I do there is a sudden loss of power at 7000 rpm. That is, I am pressing the accelerator but the car is stuck at 7000 rpm.It happens most frequently if I try accelerating quickly when the car is cold but also happens if I have been using the car for a few hours.I have been given contradictory information by my dealer. On the one hand, I believe the GT is rated at 173 horsepower at something like 7300 RPM. On the other hand, my dealer told showed me something from a manual claiming the GT was not supposed to go above 6800 RPM. However, most of the time I can go above 7000 RPM. The mechanic is claiming this intermittent problem is normal which does not make sense in a because if it was normal, and I would think it would happen all the time. The other part of this that is not normal is the fact that when this happens (that is, I am stuck at 7000 RPM), I am losing partial control of the car because I can no longer go faster than the speed I obtained. So, if this sudden loss of power or ability to accelerate occurred at a time I was making an emergency maneuver, I would be unable to get my car going faster. Has anyone heard of this problem before? Thanks, Alan
If the engine is cold, it won't rev above that until it warms up. It should rev to redline once the engine is warmed up.If it's not, there is definitely something wrong. Guesses would be Engine computer, thermostat. I'm probably off on that though.

Sounds as though the second cam isn't kicking into "lift"...wait until the vehicle is fully warmed up. If it still has the problem take it in. Drive with the mechanic in yours, then take GT on the lot for drive. Make sure the j@ckass salesman is in there with you and get pic of his face when you take it to redline in lift!As far as the dealer saying the GT isn't supposed to go past 6800....well, he's an idiot. This would render buying the GT useless. Some salesman. Try 8,300 on stock computer and 8700 on Unichip unit!I'm pretty sure is doesn't have anything to do with cluch.
The problem is, it happens when the engine is fully warmed up (it's happened twice after I had been driving for about 3 hours or more), but it is intermittment.I also don't normally rev it up that high. It didn't happen when I drove with the mechanic. However, driving the engine cold demonstrates what happens more rarely when the engine is warm. I am not happy that the mechanic tried to convince me this was normal by claiming the engine should not go above 6800. I get the feeling he just doesn't want to figure it out (or he can't)
Considering it's a high-revving, high-compression engine, i'd say that's bunk. Also consider that lift doesn't engage until 6200 rpm.I'll agree, the cold thing is true. I think I read the ECU won't allow the second cam to engage unless the engine is at a certain temp. However, once it's warmed up, you should ALWAYS hit lift. If what you're saying is true, call them on it. When the engine is warm, you should hit lift, and make it to ~8300 rpm without the rev limiter kicking in.

Any mods or K&N filter? What your seeing can happen if your MAF is fouled or if you haven't reset the ECU after a mod and the motor runs lean. It's not the clutch
