Sticker must be wrong!

Post by ejm »

I just filled my vibe up for the second time and I am only getting 30 mpg....Is this correct for a base model? The sticker says 29 city and 36 highway. I do 99 percent highway driving. How can I increase the mpg on my vibe? Thank YouBy the way I have a 5 speed manual tranny. Eddie

If your vibe is new with low mileage, give it some time to break in and see what happens with your mpg.

It has approx. 400 miles on it. Could that be it? Break in time will increase mpg.

It did for me. I have an auto, and my first tank i averaged about 28 MPG. Now I get about 31 in mixed driving, and on a recent road trip I got about 34 (75 MPH with A/C). I also changed my oil about 750 miles as well..........Now i have about 2800 miles on it and have had it about 3 weeks.

WOW! Thats great miles for a automatic! I guess I'm jumping the gun a little.I will do as you say and change the oil at 750 miles and we'll see what happens. It should have 750 within the next 2 weeks. What type of oil do you guys use? .........Synthetic?........ Eddie

I use Moble 1 Tri-synthetic 5W-30 with the Moble 1 filter. I changed it around 1000 miles because I am not sure if Toyota hot-runs their motors prior to shipping, so it is a good idea to change the oil about then to get all of the metal shavings out after break-in.I then change it every 5k whether it needs it or not.

I was getting about 32 with my 5-speed with mostly I-75, 75mph driving. In the winter, I got a few mpg worse. Not bad, but I was expecting a little better.

Mine was like flipping a switch @ 4200 miles-24mpg (or less!) pretty regular before @ 4200 miles and now 33+ all the time. Dunno why the change @ 4200 miles, but it happened! First oil change was at @ 3500 miles (GF was driving it at the time.....).
