hiya GoLow...The dash seems to have a wide variety of sounds coming from it at various times... A long time ago I read posts where there was a buzzing coming from the cluster or maybe near the radio... I had the buzzing but it was actually from the keys in the ignition. Don't have it anymore...You said yours is coming from the right side... When I hear rattles from over there, I first assume there's something in the glove box rattling. I have a tire presure gauge, 2 sockets (one for the oil pan and the other for the tranny) and a screw driver with 4 holders which hold 8 bits a piece. For me, it's usually the screw driver or one of the sockets rattling. Check to see if there's something metal in there, like maybe a screw or a bolt or maybe something like what I have that might be causing the rattling.Dave

Do what I do.Take a box. Empty EVERYTHING out of the car. Then take it for a test spin, see if you stil have the rattle, and if so, if you can figure out where it's coming from.

Maybe it is coming from the radio area. For sure it's not on the left side. It's a bit hard to pin point cause I'm driving. BTW, there is nothing in the glove box cause the car empty, like new.Thanks. I may have to let the dealer take a stab. Are rattles hard to find by the dealer? What should I do if they can't find it?

Will have the dealer check it out tomrorow...of course it was eas to spot, I had removed the entire upper dash and took it for a spin.

I found 2 rattles on mine that drove me nuts til i found them. THey both came from the righ side near the glove box, and this is what i found:A metallic rattle sound was actually the seat adjustment bar on the bottom of the passenger seat. It is used to adjust seat travel back and forth. Well, i found some play in the mechanism under the seat, and i fixed it by taking some paper and making shims. The second was the plastic cover that goes over the blower fan motor. There are 2 plastic retaining clips there, and there is some play between the parts. Again, i folded some paper to make shims, and the problem has disappeared.

They suggest I ride with the tech another day. I guess I'll have to take time off from work

Now it rattles sometimes as low as 40mph. Then sometimes I don't hear it at 80mph on silky smooth surface.

Under the glovebox, and then under the plastic dash, there is a metal box covering something. That metal box is held in place by two plastic fasteners that push through it and attach it to the bottom of the dash. Mine rattled like crazy, and I noticed the fasteners weren't pushed in all the way. When I inserted them fully, the rattle disappeared. Hope this helps,Jay

Just some quick suggestions from an expert on squeaks and rattles.Often, they aren't coming from where they sound like they're coming from. That's why they are so difficult to diagnose. Someone else sitting in the car, in a different location than you (the driver), may not hear it at all or hear it completely different.Certainly look at the dash, but also look at the headliner/sunvisor, seats, door, 'A' pillar, 'B' pillar. Is it a definite rattle, or is it more like a squeak? There are some little plastic clips high under the dash that are used to hold the windshield in place while the sealer sets or dries. Afterwards, these clips are unnecessary, but they are sometimes a source of an annoying low frequency squeak. You have to take the top of the dash off to get at them. They can be safely removed. Squeaks and rattles are the most frustrating problem with a new vehicle, for the owner and the dealer. Nothing can sink a JD Power score faster than chronic rattles. All manufacturers are very concerned about squeaks and rattles. Good luck.

we had a very similar rattle in my wife's Focus....it took me a bit of time but i discovered that the plastic in the front right wheel well was a little loose. I found some old woven material (old dog leash) and cut a length that i squeezed in between the metal body and the plastic wheel well panel. The rattling stopped!it sounded like it was coming from inside the dash and was driving us nuts!!
I have signatures turned off so I'm not even sure what mine says in this space!

I had a mettalic rattle that turned out to be a metal brace by the glove box that came loose. Since it fell off completely, I haven't had the rattle anymore, so I never put the brace back. the second half of http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=5933

Well here is my insight on the rattles. I have them and I am sure that we all do. Yes the seat adjustment bar under the passenger seat is one of the culprits and I am assuming the glove box is one of mine. I have a GT and I notice the rattle more above 3200 or 3500 RPM which I am sure that everyone has heard before. Also a little insight on dealerships that I have gone to. I knwo that the third gear synchro in my car is a little screwed up, but you wouldn't notice it unless you are actually driving the car like it was made to be driven. I told this to the dealership and I have even riden along with them and told them to get into a bit to hear or feel the problem that I have. They still insist on shifting it at 2500 rpm so basically they are in sixth gear at 30 miles an hour. Dealerships around me are a bunch of ding a lings. So I am hesitant to take my car in for rattles. there is my two cents
