Post by VibeChick »

Ok folks - Mr. SuperBlingMatrix and I are thinking Sunday June 6th is the weekend to do this. I think it will pretty much be the only weekend we will have before Swirv is gone on vacation.Does this work for y'all?

June 6 will work for me. By the way, I'm checking into the vehicle year and type of CAI that will fit. Keely, I think you are OK. Carrie and I have 04 models which may be questionable. I really don't know why there would be so much difference from one year to the next. On another thread, someone thought that the lower pipe needs to be cut in order to clear the foglight on the 04. We'll see...

The difference between the '03 and the '04 is that for '04 an extra airpump was added which requires some different hosing on the CAI. Also Injen changed the design of the CAI. That is why you have to make sure that you and Carrie get the right ones.....otherwise you will not be happy on June 6th.Oh..........and no cutting is needed. Whomever said that...full of it.

She is double-checking the part number for the 04 XR/XRS. On another thread, someone said that Injen may be developing a Vibe specific CAI by May. Anyone else confirm this?

They did but to be honest I'm using the MAtrix one and we had no problems installing it. The most important thing is to make sure you get the right year of intake. Mine is an 03 you and VC need 04 right?

JUST KIDDING!!!! .... you don't have to eat it either.

Connie at Diablo called Injen directly: CAI for '03 XRS/GT is OK, CAI for '04 XRS/GT is OK, but CAI for 04 XR/Base is uncertain because Injen only has a '03 CAI for now (doh!). Carrie is checking on return policies.

Carrie is checking on return policies.the only reason there is a part number for the 03 gt/xrs and a diff part # for 04 gt/xrs is because the airbox in the 2zz is different b/w model years. this is why the 03 is rated at 180 hp and the 04 is 173 hp. i believe this was due to stricter emissions. in fact the 05 gt/xrs will lose another 3 hp and is rated at 170 hp. there was no change in the base/xr/awd air restrictions for the 1zz engines so a separate part # is not necessary. -the 03 cai for the base/xr/awd is the same for all other model years. -the 03 cai for the gt/xrs is different from the 04 model year and is necessary to state which year and engine you have

Don't forget there are separate intakes for the Vibe and Matrix now...we used to just use the Matrix intake, but the problem was, the way the pipe is routed, it rubs against the headlamp assembly, and makes the install difficult. When I installed mine by removing the bumper, I actually had to force the headlamp back into place (I had removed it for the install), and it's being put under a lot of pressure by the intake tube. They created a Vibe-specific intake that now somehow avoids that problem. Make sure you get that one. Also, as to the 04 GTs, I thought the smog pump blocked that hole that goes to the lower part of the car where the intake pipe usually goes? I'll have to pop by a dealer today and tomorrow and take a look...

Well I did bring up the idea of having a meet in Sylvan Lake in September....half way between Edmonton and Calgary....and we can cruise the beach front. And go camping as well. Banff is not too bad.....just farther away for me and farther for the Edmonton folks to attend also. I think Sylvan Lake would be a better place.
