Anyone have a lot of wind noise coming from the driver's door (top rear) when driving at highway speeds? The seals are really thin and if I push on the door at the top, it will go in 1/2 inch further. Anyone have this replaced at the dealership? Just wondering if it's a common problem.

I'm getting some excess wind noise from the rear passenger side door. It's hard for me to mess with it while driving though. I thought maybe the window wasn't shut all the way, but it's cranked up tight (no power package)
I've found the exact opposite. My Vibe is very quiet, at least compared to my last car. It is a little louder than my wife's Neon. But it is much much quieter than my last car (Plymouth Laser).
I just started having this exact same problem last week. Same place too, drivers door top rear, only at highway speeds. It sounds as though the window is not quite closed but it is. I inspected the door seal and can't see any problem so I don't know why it would have just started now (I've had the car for just under a year, 30,000km on it). I'm actually taking it in for service tomorrow and will have them look at it. Will let you know what they say.
quote:One thing I do not like about these door seals is that when you open the door, it allows water to drip inside. That's not the fault of the door seal. It's the modern design of cars now where a drip rail is no longer on the car because it adds wind resiatance and wind noise.
That's probably because those doors are a different design that makes the top of the door frame part of the roof. I believe the Taurus is that way, so is my wife's Voyager. The Vibe isn't like that.
The only wind noise that I hear is coming from the vent shades that I added last week and I only hear excessive noise while the window is down( more noise than what was there before). inside the car the only noise that I hear seems to come from the rear on the passenger sideShadow Realm

A simple door adjustment should resolve this problem. Believe it or not, in the assembly plants, they routinely 'reef' on the doors to adjust them. By that I mean, roll the window all the way down, firmly plant your knee on the inside of the door panel to stabilize it, grab the top of the door where the air seems to be entering and give it a yank! This works. Try to adjust the striker (what the door latches onto) inward slightly as well, not too far. Good luck.
on the right side of my vib i also get a noise like a window is cracked but isnt...seals look good too....if you think refeing on a door by hand is aggressive, in the body shops they use 2x4's and wood blocks to align some doors...why?...because a lot of the new cars are coming with hinges that are not adjustable and are welded on instead of the old bolt on ones...cant adjust the new ones hardly at all, so if a hinge is made sort of screwy at the factory, there really isnt a way to adjust it with tools, have to be manually "corrected" lol, if a customer could see the tricks that mechanics and body guys do to fix their cars they would feint, lol...BUT the car isnt damaged or seriously affected in any way by these "adjustments" so not to worry!!
quote:Are you guys sure you are not mistaking the road noise from the tires or wind hitting the roof rack?Yes, I'm sure. This is definitely a new noise. And if you push on the window it changes the pitch of the noise although I can't seem to get it to stop completely. Tough to work on it though when you're try to drive at 100km/hr at the same time! It's in for service today, we'll see what they say about the noise....
silverawd26,It helps alot for me because I am a smoker and even if I wasn't I would still have my window opened a little to get air. It definately keeps out the rain while you are sitting still or at high speeds. They are very easy to put on. It took me about 2-3 minutes to install them on all four windows. Just make sure that you get them in the right place on the first shotShadow Realm

Well the dealer had a look at this problem when I had my Vibe in for service on Thursday. They took it for a test drive and agreed there was a problem with wind noise in the driver window. On inspection they decided it needed a new 'Run Channel Wlstrip' (according to the invoice but there was no one knowledgeable for me to talk to when I picked it up). Does this mean the weatherstripping on the door? Of course they have to order the part in so it will be awhile before it gets fixed. However.... the funny thing is.... when I drove on the highway after the service I could no longer hear the noise! Maybe in trying to figure out what was wrong they actually fixed it? Anyway, I'm not going to tell them it stopped because it may just start up again before the new part arrives.

YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

Last month one faculty (who still smokes 2-packs a day) told the dept. head that he was told he was terminal with lung cancer. He is about 50. This month we had a retired dean die from smoking related lung and heart failure. He was 66. Retired one year. Three years ago another faculty died of smoking related lung cancer. He was 62, and not yet retired. Right now a retired faculty who used to pay students for cigarettes but quit smoking 10 years ago is on his death bed in a coma with a cancerous growth in his lungs. He is 74.The department I teach in is small. But EVERY currrent or past faculty member who was a smoker was or will be killed by it.If you can stop smoking please do. We enjoy your presence here. Yes I know eating red meat or too many eggs or driving recklessly or thousands of other things we do or consume can kill us. But they put "WARNING, this can cause cancer" on cigarette packages. There IS a reason. And 50% of us, should we live long enough, will probably get some form of cancer. But of all the cancers out there, LUNG CANCER is the one most people (99%) don't survive.KSNeptune

I doubt it or I probably would have put that in my post. Unfortunately I don't have the invoice with me and won't be able to look at it again for a couple of weeks but when I get a chance I will double check. Thanks for the offer!
quote:Rubbing the seals down with silicon spray every so often will help these seals last.Yes, and it also helps to prevent the doors from freezing shut in the winter.
I have the same exact problem...excessive noise from the rear passenger door. Complained to the dealer about it....they "couldn't duplicate the problem." Guess I have to deal with it. It's noisiest when the roads are wet.
forgive this post if it has already been addressed; I didn't have time to sort through all the posts. I had my dealer replace a crimped door seal around the driver's window a few months ago. It really helped. The rubber was pinching where the glass slides into the frame. It is amazing how much air can whistle through a crimped seal.
No noise from my Vibe...but assuming that Nummi uses the same sources...my Corolla S had both door seals replaced due to wind noise..fixed the wind noise problem, now I have to spray them with silicone spray every other week cause the seal grunt against the b post..........
