Goodbye, NOT A Maybe!!!

Post by GT_03 »

Well, i knewit was coming, but wasnot sure when. This morning was that morning. I traded in my GT. I bought a 04 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4x4 V8. It's unreal. I got a couple pics for ya. I would love to be the guy that promises to still stick around, but i'm not going lie. I might check in from time to time, but i never get in here when i had a Vibe. Dont get me wrong, the Vibe was one of the funniest cars i ever owned, but times change. Thanks alot for putting up with me and supporting me thru this time. I left most of the stuff on the car. I did keep the sub and amp, G2 brake kit, and my engine mounts. I plan on selling all that plus all my factory stuff pretty soon. i'm let you all know. Later y'all.

Sorry to see you go. I was looking forward to meeting up with you again over the summer at the weekend car shows. I guess all good things must come to an end at some point. Good luck and best wishes with the new vehicle!

Sorry to see you get out of the Vibe so soon, but I guess alot of people don't like to keep cars as long as I do.On the bright side, my boss has owned two V8 Durangos with both the old and new V8 engine and has never had problems with them. Good luck.I hope the gas prices lower a little for ya.

"Quote, originally posted by GT_03 » they gave me $18,000 for the Vibe."A car's worth what a car's worth and no more. Back when gas was 33.9 cents I had a neighbor that traded Caddy's every two years. I would like to have bought hers but the trade-in price was more than I would pay. They sold her a new Caddy at full MSRP (probably plus paint and fabric protection) then jacked up the trade-in value. She never understood that she could have bought the new Caddy without trade at a substantial discount from MSRP, and sold her two year old Caddy to me for a reasonable price that would have made her better than even.

jake75---that is usually how the dealers handle the sale of new cars when a trade in is involved. You negotiate your best price on the new car you're buying then negotiate the best price on your trade in vehicle. Then when the write up the sale, it looks like they are selling you the new car at sticker price minus the trade. The value of the trade in is inflated because they take your trade in car and give you the price for it that you agreed upon. Then to that number, they add any discounts that you negotiate off of the new car. They do this because of insurance reasons. If they sell you a $20,000 car for $17,000 and you total it on the way home, insurance will only reimburse you for the $17,000. If it is written up as being sold for $20,000 even if you didn't actually pay that much because of the trade in, you would still get reimbursed for the full $20,000.So I'm sure that GT 03 didn't actually get $18,000 for the Vibe, especially when book trade in value is closer to $11,000 to $12,000. No way a dealer would pay that much over the value. The $18K figure is the trade in value of his Vibe plus any discounts and/or incentives that come off of the sticker price of the truck that he bought.

Insurance companies are smarter than that -they read the papers and the NADA guides too and can check the numbers. Just looked at the paperwork for my recent purchase. The MSRP of $24,465 was nowhere to be found. The "price" of the vehicle was listed as $21,500, then they added sales tax, title fees etc. That gave a net figure of 22,448.92. Then they subtracted my credits of $9,400 for trade-in and $3,000 rebate for a net of $10,048.92. I suppose it depends on the dealer and perhaps on the state. (The $9,400 trade in value was a compromise between their $9,000 "black book" value and the $9,800 Blue Book value.)

actually i did get $18,000 for the Vibe, believe it or not. The dealership told me that they have special compaines that come looking for cars that have custom mods already performed. He told me if i took my wheels, intake, and etc off he would only give my $12,500 for the GT.

Things are getting to the point that the amount you get in trade will vary by how full the gas tank is!

I don't get trucks. Their big, clumsy, inefficient... and trucks still seem to be a few steps behind every other vehicle in styling.I chose the Vibe for its gas milage (I'm getting 33.5 mpg), Styling (fusion baby!), room, performance, handling, interior, ride... etc etc.I guess I don't "get" trucks Congrats on the new ride, if it makes you as happy as my Vibe makes me, then all the power to you.

I test drove a 03 Vibe GT last week, while looking for a new used blazer.I got frusrated that all these blazers that were 6 and 7 years newer then my old blazer, were in much need of work.My wife ask me to check out the Vibe GT. I liked the way it drove! I had to move the seat up one notch, which I have never done before since I'm 6'1" it had plenty of room and lots of options.I check out there paper work! being that I use to sell cars, I read into there codes. They took the car in on trade 11/02/03 for $10,800.They did the usally mark up of about $3,000.00, asking $13,998.00.Knowing that dealers hate sitting on cars over 30days, and they had being sitting on this one for 6 months.I offered them $11,000.00 hoping to steel the car, The countered with $12,995.00 and I walked out the door and went out to eat then drove home. There was a message on the machine asking me to call the dealership. They told me if I bought it tonight I could get it for $11,899.00.Knowing that they want this car gone I had the advantage.I told them I would stop by in the morning and I was bringing my check book, and if they wanted me to buy the car I would write them a check for $12,000.00 even. if they want to sell the car they'll accept the check and if not, I won't be coming back.I went there wrote the check and the took it, then tried to sell me the warranty crap which I turned it all down. ( it pissed them of LOL)I went to get in my new car and there was only half a tank of gas.I went back in a chewed them out, and they would not gas it up for me. I turned around and walked out with a hugh smile on my face.GT 03 they played you on the numbers, the is know way this dealer bought this car for $10,800, then your dealer bought yours for $18,000.00.They'll held rebates or dealer cash or both or even marked up your new one, to show you that kind of money.I know a salesman that will rip out a sticker when there back is turn or switch cars in a heart beat to a lesser equipped one then mark up that price to show a high trade or make serious cash.
