I kinda' need some help from someone who can get underneath their car!

Post by Kissfan79 »

Hey guys......perhaps this is me just being paranoid, but I would really appreciate it if someone who owns a Gt could get up underneath their car and verify something for me. I need to know if there is supposed to be a bolt in the hole right above the bolt in this picture. This is taken from right underneath the oil pan and above the right axleshaft.Jim

and one more...Once again, this is taken from directly underneath the oil pan looking kinda' up and to the left. You can't really see the hole in this picture, but you can see the bolt below it.Thanks guys...Jim

LOL...it is lying underneath the car directly under the oil pan. It is on the backside of the engine where it meets up with the transaxle. I was thinking to myself when I took the picture....no one will have any idea where this is. In the last picture, that big black bar is the right axleshaft.Jim

Ok....I found out where the spot is located from looking down on the engine. I took another picture, but without knowing exactly where to look, it will be difficult to locate on your engine. I do, however, have a buddy who has a GT that works near me. I'll give him a call to see if he can drop by to let me have a look-see. Here is the picture just for the heck of it. I took this looking down through the openings in cables by the cruise control module on the right side of the engine bay. You will notice a sticker in the picture. That is a little white sticker on the driver's side of the transaxle. The spot in question is to the left of that sticker a few inches or so. Where my finger is pointing to would be the spot where the end of the bolt would be as if bolted from the opposite side (if there is a bolt that is suppose to go there)....not the bolt head. Jim

I am surprised nobody's checked it out for you yet. I have a base, and haven't checked because I don't know if mine is the same as your GT.Looking at the pictures, I would bet money that YES, there is supposed to be bolt there. I still can't tell what parts the bolt would hold together though. Also, it looks like the 2nd and 3rd pics above are swapped, I can see the empty hole in 5315, but not in 5316. For some reason, it helped me to rotate 5315 to match it with 5317, like this one

Well....I called up my buddy and he stopped by on his way home from work and sure enough.....there is supposed to be a bolt in there. I guess it's back to the dealship again. It looks as though it is a bolt that helps hold the transaxle together. I mean...it didn't look like there was anything loose because of it missing, but it can't be good that it is not there. Thanks for looking Joatmon. BTW...what software program did you use to add the arrow in?Jim

Yes...they did replace my clutch. After that was done, I had noticed a bolt near the oil pan (looks like it went to a bracket that the axleshaft ran through) that was loose and hanging half way out of it's hole. I tightened it back up and took my car back to the dealership so they could look things over to make sure there were no other loose bolts. Evidently, as you said, it appears as though this bolt never got put back in (or was loose and fell out ). The bolt I originally found loose is the black bolt just up and to the right of center in picture 5316 above.Jim

BTW...what software program did you use to add the arrow in?I used a program called paint Shop Pro, which costs money, but I think they offer a shareware version, don't know if you really need to buy it or not.You can draw arrows with the line tool in Microsoft's Paint program, which every windows box should have. You can also use paint's Image -> Stretch/Skew function to resize an image. In this pic I used Paint to make the pic smaller, then drew an arrow (one line with two smaller ones to make the arrowhead) and put a label on it. also made one other minor change

Well...here is an update. I finally got back to the dealership today to get that bolt replaced. After being told my car was ready, I went to speak with David (my service rep) and get my car. He said they could'nt find the exact same bolt that goes in there but they did get one in. He said it wasn't the same anodized gold color but it worked. Here are 2 pictures of their solution.Jim

And here is picture #2. I could not believe it when I looked at this bolt. The bolt head is about 1/4" from making contact against the transaxle (even though it is tight and won't tighten any more). The bolt did not "bottom out" on the other side. There is still room for it to come through further. Makes me wonder if the bolt thread is really a tad too big for the hole. The washer they put on it will spin freely if you spin it. I called my rep up and left voice mail for him to call me back. I said in my message that even though that bolt is tight....it is not the correct bolt and I did not feel comfortable with it. I asked him if they could order that actual bolt to put in. Hopefully, he will get back in touch with me today. Wow...what started out as a "Man...they're hooking me up!" visit is turning into a "Damn....are they ever going to get it finished and finished right visit?!?". Makes me wonder if it was really worth getting my clutch replaced.Jim

That is sad. At least they could have put another washer or two on to take up the difference. Hope they didn't mess up the threads, and that they get it done right next time. Sounds like a good thing you are checking up on their work.

That is scary stupid. How do you mess up something like that and then have it pointed out to you then mess it up again? They "got one in"? Looks more like they had the parts runner go to the nearest hardware store. I can see that the bolt is not snug in the second pic you posted. I don't know where you find the patience, Kissfan. I hope that they do get this all worked out for you in the end.

LOL...patience is a virtue but sometimes having too much is not a good thing either. Well..David never got back in touch with me yesterday about ordering a bolt. I'll give him a call again today and see what happens. Heck..I can put the bolt in myself if they can just get me the correct bolt. It is this precise reason why I was nervous about them replacing my clutch even though I was thrilled to get a new one. Kinda' makes me wonder how well the clutch was installed .Jim

Well....I heard back from my rep and he said that they have the correct bolt that is supposed to in there ordered and when it arrives, they will get it installed. Hopefully...this should be the last hurdle.Jim
