First off I dont have a vibe so Im trying to learn more about the audio system without a actual car to look at . Im currently using single disc 2003 vibe head unit and amp in my 95 trans am . I decided to upgrade to a 6 disc radio which I will recieve in a few days , the one I bought is from a 03 . All of my wiring and install is already done via the prior radio , I just wanted to know if the 2003 6 disc head units are XM ready like the 04 head units are ? Was XM an option in 03 ? For those that know , is the factory XM set up simple , in other words ...would it be easy to adapt in a car it never came in ? I assume it just consists of a module of some sort and a XM antenna . What would I need to activate with XM since I dont even have a vibe .....the vin# of the car it came out of ? , radio serial # ? Thanks for any help to my ....errrrr , odd question .
I guess it's bad news.XM was not an option in the 2003 models. There is probably no way to integrate XM with the 2003 6 disc head unit, other than playing the XM audio through the 2003 head unit using an FM transmitterr, or an FM modulator, but there's no other way to run the audio through that unit.At least that's what I think. I hope someone can prove me wrong.
Even if you found an OEM XM module, it wouldn't work with the 03 radio. Even if you had an 04 radio, it'd need parts of a GM bus system the trans am doesn't have. Even if it had a Bus system, you'd need to find a dealership that'd program it for you.Sooo...other than the impossible part.. You could just do an FM modulator. But yeah, joatmon's pretty much right...

Thanks for the replies . XM wasnt a biggie . If it was there already it woulda been cool to make work . GM's friggen databus system needs to go to %^&* .
