Hope, don't take this the wrong way, but maybe you've been hanging out at matrixowners too much Don't confuse posting 'activity' with actually learning/gaining knowledge or exchanging pertinent information!IMHO, the m-o site has much higher traffic, lots more unregistered lurkers, and gigabytes of totally worthless posts (e.g. multiple postwh*re threads), along with a few high quality forums. Many posts seem to be made by genvibers like us with 'dual citizenship'!!!

Hope,I apologize if I offended you. My comment wasn't meant as a criticism of you, GenVibe, or the moderators. GenVibe is a treasure!I enjoy the browsing (and occasionally contributing to) the forums because they're full of primarily useful, interesting, entertaining information and pertinent opinions, and NOT full of tons of crap I have to wade through to find the good stuff.I was just expressing my opinion that thousands of useless posts on m-o indeed makes the site look busy, and seem 'alive' but a high percentage of m-o posts don't contribute much to the body of genuinely useful knowledge about Matrix and Vibe vehicles, and the online 'society'.

Quote, originally posted by MailGuy! »Here's what you've missed out on... my wife lost her job 4 months ago. I thought I could support us by doing OT but can't. I've had the same job for almost 5 years, I work hard, get little respect and have no room for advancement. Everyone I work with makes almost twice as much (and up) as I do, are in their low to mid 20's, and all own homes already. I'm pushing 30 and don't ever see home ownership becoming reality.I live in a bad part of town where going for a walk means getting hounded by meth head bums for money. One of the only things that makes me happy is my Vibe. At the end of the day, I start her up, crank the bauhaus CD, and fly through the gears. It makes me grin.Man, I am SO sorry to hear about your situation. My best suggestion is for your wife to get some sort of job, cashier, waitress, etc. It isn't fair for you to have to shoulder the whole load, especially when you are being so underpaid. I truly admire you for taking it on, its tough.I don't know what you do for a living, but is there any way to leave that job and find something else?
Just because you see Charlie doesn't mean I am a he....sometimes Charlie can be a she!!!!
aww... i'm very sorry to hear that mailguy. with the economy as it is, you cannot believe you are a failure. i doubt your wife thinks that either. if you take a look at the job market, there really isn't too much out there. on the bright side, you have a job with decent pay, and a wife who loves you. i think there are many folks that wish they could have the same. keep your head up my friend! tough times aren't fun, but they can really bring you closer to the ones you love. life is a learning experience in itself. i've been there in the deep abyss of depression myself. only advice i can give you is that keep your loved ones close to you. they are there to help support you (emotionally) and perhaps your wife might be able to find something to help offset the financial strain. has she ever thought about banking or working as a teller? that's pretty respectable and if she has her degree, sometimes you can get into a trainee program where they will help pay back some of your student loans.
your correct on that about m-o, sometimes iv just get sick of all the bs some of those people talk/complain about, i do spend time here. lots of great people here, and not alot of *****in' thanks everyone!!1

I still taking a look here on a daily basis.I'm posting less because I have nothing to reply...Is it because the information shared those time has a less better quality, or it is only less important for me, I don't know.I've notice many members has left or coming here very less often, like AtWork, Frosty, Nova, Keely, SCTM...Also many members signed up here, posted for a short period of time and juste stop posting, for no specific reason, and especially for women members. Also, no one wants to hire me for anything but this because it's what I have experience in. I don't blame my wife, I Love her and told her I could shoulder the whole load myself. I feel like I have let her down by not being able to do it. If the world were perfect, she would never have to work again, I would have a house in the country on 5 acres of land, and could work at a gas station and afford it all. 60 years ago that was reality.I don't like the way the world is going. America is the most productive country in the world. Because we all work ourselves to death and have little to show for it.I want to better myself through education but what's the point. I have $23k in my wife's student loans already. I'm not getting more in debt. $23k in loans and she has never been able to get a job making as much as me. And I don't make much and didn't go to college.Okay, 1st, about the student loans.....with mine, if I lost my job, I could get them put into a deferment period. I think it is called a forbearance. While it isn't perfect, and the interest keeps building up (you can make the quarterly payments on the interest if you want), it does stop the monthly payments for a period of time. The longest I think I can file for at a time is a year. Your wife should contact the student loan organization and ask them about it. You are not responsible for her loans, she is. So, if she has lost her job, she should look at trying to stop that payment for now to help you out. 2nd, if you go back to school even half time, you would qualify for financial aid. While it is adding another debt (which I know you don't want to do right now), you could get a degree in something that would allow you to get a job making what you need to make so your wife wouldn't have to work and you could pay both loans and buy your house. And for the record, student loans won't hurt you that much when you decide to buy a house, bad credit does. 3rd, you haven't let your wife down. I really do think it is admirable in today's world that you want to support her. But I really think right now, she needs to do something to help you out. Not making ends meet, having late payments on bills or not making payments, is going to do damage to your credit. Then when you do finally decide to buy a house, you will go through the wringer trying to explain all of that to them. And, they won't buy the wanting to support your wife argument, they will ask her why she didn't work to help you out. I think you are a great guy and an admirable man, keep it up!!!

yes, moving is extremely stressful. did you move from house to house in the same city? or move to a different province or town?now that would be an interesting thread... about where all people have lived. i've moved about 27 times, mostly from state to state and to other countries. super stressful! such is life as a military brat
Its only the second time I've moved in my life. First time was from Kingston to Ottawa. This move was from my former apartment to our condo that we purchased. Luckily it was only about a 6 block move. My stress is from all the stuff that's not going how I planned - like I spent $1800 on a washer and dryer (includes the taxes and maintenance), then Sears never showed up to install it for me. So we installed the washer last night and we turned on the taps and they leaked! I just wanna wash my clothes.

I'll hold ya to that someday... I think the reason men feel that unless they have money, the girl won't love them is because its true in many cases. One of my ex's was like that. I was a wal-mart employee making $10 an hour but she was actually ashamed to show me to her friends cause I didn't have lots of money, couldn't buy her everything she wanted and because I worked at wal-mart. I have met girls that would never give me a glance when I drove my rusted out Cavalier but do they ever stare now when I cruise by in my Vibe. Money and car can get the girl... the shallow owns that is and personally after that ex, I have disliked girls like that ever since.

Quote, originally posted by VibeChick »Ok, you're right...love that new car! eh, did I miss something?Oh, and I've been busy fighting w/ my boss :/ But that's ok. At the end of the day, I'm still the biggest producer here, putting nearly $500,000 in annual commissions in the Co's pocket (roughly $5mil in premiums).Mailguy, I am so sorry to hear about your situation...I feel for you very much. I was in a similar boat with my wife, except that she a) didn't want to work, b) didn't want to go to school c) did nothing for the 2.5 years before our daughter was born, and d) piled up ~$20k in credit card debt. The only bright side I see is that those student loans carry a lower interest rate (or they should) and facilitated a degree for your wife, but man, what a heartache. Honestly though, I would recommend the insurance industry to anyone looking for a well-paying entry-level customer service/account manager position. Sure, experience is key, BUT, if you take and pass your P&C licensing exam before you hit the interviews, they'll be very impressed. And there's TONS of independent agencies out there looking for customer-service oriented people, with the ability to move up...earning potential is really only limited by your ability, time, and detetmination.I don't know what your salary is, but when I jumped into insurance nearly 6 years ago with ZERO experience (managed a restaurant prior to that), I was hired at $26,000/year as a CSR in a private, commercial wholesale agency (no personal lines, auto insurance - yuck!). $26,000 was LOW even at the time, but I was kind of desperate, so the actual was probably ~$30k. With inflation, $35k isn't out of the ordinary, so long as you have a good deal of management/CS experience. I did have my license in hand - passed the test the day before my 1st interview LOL. I've since worked up to a producer position, make substantially more now, and am basically my own boss until the agency owner wants to ***** and moan about something petty...then we go at it .
Quote, originally posted by MailGuy! »It doesn't revolve around being rich. But what kind of man am I if I can't provide the American dream for my wife? I beg to differ with your comment. I know many women who will step over many a nice guy if there's an A-hole in the room that can buy them the pretty things they want. Women by design want a provider. And from what people tell me I treat her very well. you're right. let me clarify what i meant: quality women worth keeping will choose a man who can treat her well and love her over one that has money. obviously, it's nice to have a man that can do both. now, some women like being provided for, not having to work, etc. i am not one of those women. i was unemployed for 6 mos and i went insane. went thru a hellish depression too. and one other thing: when you are depressed (and i don't mean just sad), it doesn't matter what other people tell you. your focus is on the hurts and what's wrong, not on what's right. it's VERY difficult to pull out of a deep depression.
I'm here. I check to see what the daily posts are almost each day and when I'm at work I check it all throughout the day. I read a lot of the posts and only post something if I have a question/answer or have something to say. I've noticed it's slowed down. I think it used to be around 90-100 topics on the today's active topics, now it seems like it's been around 60-70. It'll probably pick up eventually. I love the weather right now, except for a lot of rain we've had recently. I'm finishing up my semester, had a final in Finance yesterday and I have one more next Tuesday! Can't wait to be done! Then I may have one class this summer (currently wait listed), then 4 or 5 next Fall, and then I graduate in December/January! Oh, by the way, I turn 22 today!

Matt, man you sure do sound busy! I'm going to school full-time too, but only 12 credits and I work. I stack my classes, so I was having class twice a week and worked 3 days a week. My commute sucks, about 1.5 hour one way to work and 1 hour to school, so 2-3 hours of commuting a day. Driving the Vibe sure does make it a lot more enjoyable though!

Ben, I know you're one of the few that would actually appreciate an honest answer to this question, particularly because you recognize there's some serious problems on the forum (BTW, I do hope you'll change your mind, as you are a gem even if you're surrounded by a lot of rocks). However, I'm pretty sure noone else wants to hear about it.Things have improved, and that's why I've returned, but only to a limited extent. The forum has evolved sufficiently that I know where to avoid and who to avoid. However, if I hadn't discovered my regional forum where I found other great people that I've since met in person thanks to our first meet, particularly the other women, I doubt my return would have lasted long.
I know my participation dropped off considerably since my finals began. After that, school ends and crazy work hours begin. I have to use the summertime to make the money that I didn't have time for while in school. I'm usually working 6 days per week for about 55-60 hours at a job that is very physically demanding. Then I come home and I've got work around the house to do. The few minutes that I get so spend here I usually use to check the forum that I moderate and that is about all the time I have. I'm still in the chat room from time to time also.I noticed that I pretty much followed this same pattern last year as well. Now that I've been away from here a lot it seems that a bunch of people started fighting with each other and things got ugly but I have no clue what went on. >
