Window Problems

Post by jackospades »

Hey guys haven't posted in a while but will post today about an issue I have been dealing with for about 2 weeks. One day me and my wife were in the Vibe riding down John R In Mi. And heard a rattling noise. I turned down the radio and heard it again. It was my driverside window. I rolled it up and heard a click rolled down and it made the same noise. I figured something got in there but didnt know for sure. So I opened the door with the window still down and heard a scratching noise the Hinge in the door was scratching against the window. AmazingTo get to the nitty gritty of the story I took it to my dealership to remain nameless (Rinke Pontiac) Where they did not believe me so I made him check it. Lo and behold he found something wrong. They said they would fix and have for me the next day. No prob. Next day pick it up everything fine. It rained for 4 days never needed to let the window down. When the rain ended I rolled it down it start hissing and popping and Slam down to the bottom of the door. Took it back to the dealer They "fixed" while I waited 4 hours. They said dont open for 3 days then try it. Waited 4 days opened window did exact same thing. Amazing. I took it back they kept it over night replaced the motor which they should have done the first time instead of being cheap. Now I am Happy to have my baby back but mad at the cheap attempt at good service. Thanks for letting me vent. Have a good Viben Day

Sorry to hear about your troubles! There seems to be a lot of "bad" pontiac service departments around!

Man that is some screwed up service department that they are running. I would have been pretty upset as well. I'm glad they finally got it fixed for you though.

Try Bob Jeannotte in Plymouth, MI next time. I know it's out the way, (was for me too) but It's worth the trip when it comes to service

It sounds like they tried to simply glue a broken part back together rather than buy you a new replacement. Stupid idiots it sound like.KSNeptune

Well you wont believe what happened on my trip to Alabama after getting my window "fixed". It broke again. Man I can't take it. I love GM and American cars, but when was driving imports and anything went wrong they fixed the problem. I am losing my mind. I took my Vibe back today. They said"Just have patience" I about snapped. I know how to set customers off in retail and that is a way to do it if the customer is already being very patient. I love my Vibe I wonder if I had bought a Matrix would I have this problem with service. Another rant thanks for listening. Keep on Viben'

You can also try Auburn Pontiac (in Pontiac). My brother works there in the service department. I will have him take mine in if it needs anything.

You know, this is one reason why I didn't want the power windows. I have almost always had a bad experience with them,, I got the manual windows and I tell you I wouldn't want it any other way... a lot of people I have talked to with the power windows both on the Vibe and Matrix that have had the cars for more then 4 months have already had them in for window problems... Not me!

They ended up lubricating something in the window and now its working ok for now..They say it probably has something to do with the rain (Makes NO SENSE to me).. I am going to carefully monitor my window now.... JEEEEEEEEZ.. I barley have 9k miles and I am already seeing problems..

I have 38,711 miles on mine and haven't seen any mechanical problems, just deal screwups, things like they broke the door handle one time, the next they cross threaded the oil pan drain plug. etc...

Yah me and my dealership have issues also wish I could take it to toyota dealership its closer lol! Sounds like the window was slipping off of the motor arm. It probably broke the motor when it slid all the way down. I use to have issues with the motor arm on my cavy. It slid down one time and bent the motor arm. Thing is I can't believe it them a day the first time to fix its only like a 2 hour job to fix.

They should offer power door locks on their own.

Additional Re: Window Problems / Extending the Warranty?

Post by TrojanGT »

We had a one-time weird issue with the left rear passenger window (yes, power). For some reason, one hot day when my husband decided to roll all of the windows down while waiting for my daughter and I to finish an errand, it just wouldn't move. He tried pushing the lock button, unlocking the lock button, triggering it from the driver door, and then the left rear door switch, and it wouldn't move. I came back, he left the area for a minute, and in that time, I hit every button I could think of, swore at the car and mentally told it I would take it apart myself... and then the window rolled down like a charm. Go figure. Can't decide if it was the heat, a momentary glitch in the lock switch, or intense psycho-kinetic energy (ya right)... but it's working now... for now... and I'm undecided about extending the warranty on the car - I have about one to two months (4000 miles) to decide this. Any suggestions? Mahalo!

After going back probably 5 times for my window replacement. I finally pinpointed the problem the Guys at Rinke Pontiac are complete idiots. They ordered the wrong window 4 times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! installed it with a new motor everytime. I am pulling my hair out. On the last time they "fixed" the window they broke the driver side speaker. WOW!!! Didn't see that coming Amazingly enough when they fixed it they broke the the console bezel where the controls for the windows are. I mean why is this happening. I want to take the Vibe else where but why should I have a good dealership fix other retarded dealerships mistakes? After they attempt to fix the bezel never again will I get anything done there. They try so hard to treat me right but everytime I leave something else is wrong. Thanks for listening Buyer Beware of Rinke Service Department. Other than this crappy service I love my Vibe No mechanical problems at all. One little click led to this insanity. makes me wish I hadnt have took it in. Ya'll have a good day. Keep on Viben'

Dude, you n eed to call pontiac, tell them what this group is doing to your car! If they don't have qualified techs there, and for whatever reason won't hire any, pontiac needs to know!!! I bet if Jeff Strausser heard about this he'd go nuts!

Sorry to hear about another dealership complaint. I do hear alot of them. By al means let Pontiac know. They will gather the feedback. Since they are so close to the Tech Center they have to provide outstanding service. They are the local dealer for most people who work at the Tech center. They provide shuttle service to work. There are close to 25000 people who work here and I am not quite sure how many of those are pontiac/GMC since that is what the sell/service. I do hope that was a one time thing and a lerning lesson for the dealership. It may be some confusion with Toyota parts. I am just trying to have an open mind. I know for a fact the Noonan has excellent service. That is why I bought my wife hers from there. They even offered to wash the Vibe after we drove it away because we drove it home on a day that was raining. Maybe it is also of who I am. I do not advertise and just try to be an average Joe. Jeff has visited Noonan and knows the guys in the service department. We were discussing the Supercharger last week.
Just here to lend a hand to people who have questions about their Vibe.

Well, I've been having problems with my window (driver side) - after six months of owning it. I have power windows and opening the windows -it was fine, but when I close the windows, I can hear two clicks, one in the middle then one in the end. Brought to a dealership here in Jersey City and they told me it's normal, because of some "cycle" the power windows has to go through, but they said that they will check it anyway. Got the car back and the problem was still there. Well, decided to keep the car and not to worry about it and have it serviced again before the warranty expires. Now, I decided not to bring it to the service dept. here in JC because I think they are full of sh**, so I brought it to where I bought my car from and they check it and they told me that the window regulator needs to be replaced. Hopefully, they get this resolve. I will need to bring in my car this Friday. -will let you know how it goes.

Long time since I have logged in, I used to be under VwGirl last year. I am hoping for some discussion about my recetn window explosion.Yesterday, I was driving and decided to roll down the power window. In under 3 seconds it exploded into the car, hitting my head, the passenger seat, and the back seat.In the past I have heard clunks and shudders at various intervals when rolling the window up or down.I immediatley went to the dealer. There response was that I need to go to the insurer (ICBC) to rule out non-warranty issues. I was covered in glass and in shock. I asked them to open the panel and look, as I have had problems with the window before and am certain that I was not hit by a bird or a rock as they had suggested. They reamained steadfast, so I went to the insurer. The insurer asked why I did not go to the dealer first. I told him I did. He called them to advocate for me. He then helped by vaccuming up the majority of the glass on the seats and floor.I arrived back at the dealer, and waited for the huddle of employees to decide how to respond. They said they would look into it. And gave me a courtesy car upon request ( I think they just wanted the angry lady out of their shop!).They fixed the window in 1 day. On pick up I realized they did not fix the scratches in the paint, the scratches in the rubber around the exterior of the window, or the tears in the interior door panel. I was told that they would address these problems the next day. I was then "told" to sign a "Release". The contract is vague and a page long. It seems to ask that I agree to not proceed with any more concerns and promise to honour confidentiality about this incident. It does not mention the window or any claim number. And they haven't fixed everything yet.I refused to sign and they eventually/reluctantly returned my car keys. My questions are:Is GM aware of this safety danger? Does anyone know anything about the release form?Sorry about the extended posting.

To answer your two questions:Quote, originally posted by Jenvibe »Is GM aware of this safety danger? Does anyone know anything about the release form?I'm going to guess that unless you report it to GM Canada, they're not going to find out from the dealership. I would phone the 1-800 line.I can't imagine why they'd want you to sign a release like you are describing, unless they are trying to cover their butts. Good on you for not signing it. I'd guess that a lawyer wrote it, so you shouldn't sign it without your lawyer reading it (unless of course, you are a lawyer).I hope they fix the rest of the damage to your car, that is just insane!

You and I are both bright girls, but lawyers are shady. My $0.02 of unsolicited advice is NEVER NEVER NEVER sign a legal document without having a lawyer read it over first.Expensive? Yeah, sometimes, but signing away the right to sue is even more expensive.

Funny thing is that I asked a salesman to read the form and explain it to me and he couldn't. He asked the service guy and was told that it was "easy" to understand. I replied that it can't be that easy if their own employee and a customer both could not understand it's purpose.

Were they even able to explain what might have possibly caused the window to shatter? To have a window just explode is a pretty rare occurance and most dealerships will reccomend you speak to your insurance company. The only thing that holds the window in its place is the regulator and the window channels, none of which can shatter a window... I can't say they were wrong in suggesting you talk to your insurance but they should have helped you clean it up and have been a lot nicer to you. I'm very curious to know what the cause was if you ever find out.

I had the same problem. On 4/16/04 my driver's side window exploded and shattered glass all over me for no reason. I have been unable to convince the dealer and Pontiac that this is a safety issue which needs to be investigated and diagnosed at their cost and expense. Also, I read on the NHSTA website that another Vibe owner had his sunroof explode and shatter for no reason. I wonder how many others there are like us out there.

that's weird. were you rolling it up/down when it shattered?as far as I remember, only you, Jenvibe, and lordyogi (see http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=6413) have reported the problem here, but that doesn't mean that others haven't or won't have the same thing happen.welcome to genvibe!

I had just paid for gas and the window was all of the way down. I pushed the button to raise it and the window got stuck @ 1/3 of the way up. Although I never had that problem on this car, I had on others, albeit when they were older. I pushed the button to lower, then raise it. I heard an explosive sound, ducked and braked, and when I looked up I was covered in green safety glass.

The Vibe takes less than 5 quarts of oil with a new filter, and I had 6 quarts in my car. I pick my car up, no extra oil. My service writer was gone when I get my car, so I call him the next morning and tell him to call me when he's got the extra bottle and I"ll stop by and pick it up. A month later I'm still wating for that call. The car was also overfilled, and the oil wasn't new. This can only mean the guy changing the oil just poured a half quart of whatever in the car and made off with all the Royal Purple. It's sad and ironic that the only Pontiac dealer in Pontiac MI is crooked

The dealership said it had something to do with the plastic clips on the bottom of the window. They did not give me a copy of the work order yet, as they failed to fix everything to my satisfaction. I got my car back on Wednesday and am still waiting to hear from them re: when they plan to fix the rest of the damage. I hope this does not happen to others that are experiencing their windows clunking and shuddering. Those where the first signs I had...
