Center Console power adaptor q

Post by Thenotorioussig »

I was looking at some neon lights the other day in napa and they could plug into your power adaptor so i figured it would look good if i plugged them into the one in the center console since i dont use that one and it could hide the cord... the only problem is how do i get the cord out of the center console and under the seats and then maybe even up to under the dash... any ideas?also does anyone know how long those neons are gonna last... am i gonna have to change them like every 2 months if i get em?

Neons last a very long time.It would be much easier and look a lot nicer if you just spliced into some power wires rather than trying to run wires from the cigarette lighter.

Well, you could, if you REALLY wanted, unbolt the console, use a fish tape to pull the wires from the console area under the carpet up into the shifter column and into the dash. But as the former reply stated, just buy a $2 auxilary outlet at walmart and wire it into some existing wiring.I installed a cig outlet using a bolt from the air filter box behind the glove compartment. It hides perfectly, and does not interfere with the operation of the glovebox door. I grounded the outlet on the bolt it is mounted on, and tapped into the power from the radio. For neons, however, I recommend running a new circuit off the fuse panel...

I'd follow Mike's later statement about tapping from the fusebox. Grab one of the Add-a-fuse's he's always pushing and wire the Neon's into that. I'd put a switch on 'em though. You don't want those things fired up if you're pulled over. And, as stated. Neon's last a REALLY long time. As long as you don't abuse 'em. (Step on em, bash them with a hammer, etc.)

hey, just wanted to welcome you to genvibe. i don't know that much about the wiring/electical info like some of these guys, but they are very knowledgeable and have helped me out on my projects in the past. my dad used to work in electronics in the air force, so he usually is in charge of all my wacky wiring jobs unless it's a simple snip here, connect there job.

Yep. Grab yourself one of these: It's called Add-A-Circuit and it's made by Littlefuse. Pep Boys has them for like $10. Then crimp that (removed) connector onto the positive lead of your neons.Ground the negative lead to any bolt you can find (there is a central ground under the steering column. I recommend using that. You'll see several white/black wires coming off that bolt). You can install a switch in those little rectangular panels to the left of the steering wheel, where you currently have the button for the lift glass release. I got one at radio shack for a few bucks. Run a wire from the ground point to the switch, and then the switch to the negative lead of the neons. Real snap to install I bet.

i picked up one of those add a fuse things but the fuse was too big to fight into our fuses under the dash there... is there a smaller sized one? now ill probably have to wait until tomorrow to finish installing my neons...

Make sure you didn't pick up Add-A-Circuit for ATC fuses. We use a mini fuse system....
