Wider Stance

I doubt I'd actually find the time to do this, but how do you make your wheels stick out past your fenders? I've seen this done on muscle cars and on lowriders. Gives you a much wider stance and it looks cool. Does anybody know how to do this? Does anybody know what I'm talking about?

no...I've looked for a good pic for about an hour and this is all I could come up with. (Nice car though...lol)Notice how the wheels are much wider than stock, that's what I'm talking about.

i have seen it done two ways. the first is to buy a wheel with the mount inset way back on the wheel so it mounts further out, the other would be with spacers.

Why would you want to do that? Just looks like you bought wheels with wrong offset. Even back in the day of mini-trucks, I didn't get it...IMHO I would go with a +35 mm offset wheel. That will bring you flush to outter part of the wheel well. If you want wider, then get a 8" wheel. It could be a disaster on your wheel bearings. The load would be too great. Not to mention abnormal tire wear, strain on suspension components, and an ugly looking car, IMO....But hey do what you must! If you like it, then do it....but expect consequences....

I like the idea of them being flush with the fender. Maybe I'll get some rims with +35 offset. But that will have to wait until my student loans are paid off.

Ah yes, the lack funds for fun! Don't ya hate it! I'm currently saving for wheel/tire package myself! But it will come! I think you would be much happier with +35 mm offset. A little more stable, no rubbing, and good looks!Try the search feature on the forums. You can find lots of info on many topics! That way you can do tons of research before you make a decision!

I actually have wheel spacers that should in theory fit the vibe...ive never tried them but i think our bolt pattern is within the tolerances for the spacers....I wouldn't mind having spacers on the vibe but i would want bigger ones than these....i think they are 5/16in.?? I'd probably sell them....

Hmm, I'll keep that in mind, if I can't get the wheels I want in +35. I'll get the offset that would come as close to that with the spacers...

yuck! i like the wheels flush w/ the car but not sticking out. looks ghetto... and it's a metro.... even worse! lol. but hey, if you like it, that's all that matters.

check you local inspection laws before doing this in some place it is not legal for wheels to stick out beyond the fenders which is why big trucks have fender flares

That would be MadBill and no they don't stick out much at all. He had custom adapter plates machined for them, they were old Corvette rims and tires. See-"Project Big Boots"-.

lol! It was a joke! It doesn't seem that it will stick out to far I just don't like it when they stick out about half to 3/4 of the wheel!

Well as saved by zero stated going out is murder on wheel bearings and the lug bolts that hold the wheels on. nothing against your thoughts on this but I wouldn't go with that look wider yes but tucked under looks better in my book. For the look of the vehicle I don't think that it would look right. just my thoughts.

I've got a 35 mm offset and they aren't near the edge yet. You could go 30 or more pretty easily if the look is what you're after. Stock is 38 and you would only be moving the wheel 0.12" with a 35mm. If it looks like more to some, it's because you've seen it with wider wheels/tires. 1/2 that extra width gets added to filling the gap. If you move them out a lot you will also lose some self centering and the car will track ruts a bit more.

its so tasteless. Ive seen maybe one or two tasteless cars on here but please dont ruin a nice car. man if you do that you should be banned from this board.the only reason tires should stick out on a vibe would be slicks in front.

I laugh when I see cars with their wheels sticking out , just not my style. Just get some wheels with a larger offset. My Evo5s have a 35mm offset and are almost flush with the fenders. I think it looks best when the wheels are more flush with the fender and not sticking out or set in too much.
