Hi all, from reading around I gather that in order to install a Magnaflow catback, you have to cut the exhaust pipe behind the cat. Is this easily done if I back the car up on ramps and go to town with a hacksaw? Or would I be better off taking it somewhere to be put on? It seems that a lot of you have put it on yourself, so how difficult was it - if at all? Also, what if I just put on the muffler part and left the pipe behind the cat stock? Would it make that much of a difference (in performance) between using the stock pipe and the Magnaflow pipe? Thanks!

I thought it was much easier than installing my springs, but harder than installing my intake. I think this could be done fairly easily by anyone who has handled tools before. I used a reciprocating saw, but a hacksaw would work if you are patient.Quote, originally posted by DeClerq »Also, what if I just put on the muffler part and left the pipe behind the cat stock? You can have a shop weld in a Magnaflow muffler for you and it will work pretty well. However, you can't just install the rear half of the Magnaflow kit, because the stock flange is different than the Magnaflow's. If you wanted to go that route, I would recommend the Borla, which is very simple to install yourself.
I would not recommend trying to do this with a hacksaw. You need a power saw, a Sawzall for example. And you actually make the cut just in front of the stock resonator, not just behind the cat. You will see on the instructions what I am talking about. If you don't have access to that type of saw, I would go have it professionally installed. When I inquired about having it installed at a local shop, they said it would be around $100 to install it.

Got mine on today. Went with the Magnaflow bought it from Performance Peddler. They will give you a real good deal if you haven't already purchased one. Got mine for $280 shipped, it got here in 3 days and had installed 2 days later. Took around 2 hrs of work.
I got mine from performance peddler also.. Ordered it on tuesday, got it on friday. The instalation was easy. only problem was fitting the two pipes together, because they were the same size. So I cut a groove and squeezed it smaller. works and sounds great.
