problems unlocking door with remote (RKE)

Post by Zig in East Orleans »

Okay, i've read several different posts but none are quite related to my query. It takes usually 4 or 5 tries to unlock my Vibe with the remote and each time the lights flicker so I'm assuming it's in range. And actually the range appears to be much larger than 30' at times. Yet it seems that the doors will only unlock or have to try several times until the rear ones unlock. What's the deal? I used to have the same prob with my '03 Sunfire. In the end it's not a really big deal but more frustrating than anything. (Osti en bon francais!)Anyone else? Suggestions?Peace, love and Vibe!

Make sure you hit the unlock button twice within 3 seconds...if you wait too long, it won't unlock the rear doors. Also, if the car is wet (perhaps after a rain storm), that can't deterioriate the quality of the RKE signal, and cause problems. Finally, if those both fail, have the dealer run a RKE diagnostic. Maybe the receiver is flaky.

What door are your trying to open? If you press the unlock button on the fob once, it only unlocks the drivers door. You must press unlock button twice within 3 seconds to unlock all the doors. If you press it twice in more than 3 seconds, it only unlocks the driver door again.

or if you press it too fast it won't unlock all the doors either. I have also noticed that if you wait too long to open the door after you unlock them they will also relock automatically.

One more oddity I've noticed on my '03 Vibe...If you press twice and unlock all the doorsand then you only open a rear passenger door without opening the driver's door, my car will relock all the doors again after 30 seconds, just as if no door had been opened.
