Why did you remove your cai last fall? for the winter? If thats the case, I live in michigan and had mine on the entire winter and never had any problems.
Because it was time for filter maintenance. It was freezing outside, and I needed to clean the filter. Didn't have the luxury of letting the car sit for a day without an air filter, so decided it would just be easier to go back to stock until I could clean the filter and work out a future logistics plan.

Finished! Why remove the bumper? Well, I installed it last time and found it exceedingly difficult to maneuver the intake into place. I also had trouble getting the filter on. I figured I would try this method and see if it made life easier. AND IT DID!SO MUCH EASIER!Will post pics soon...

AND IT DID!SO MUCH EASIER!Will post pics soon...I understand this point, but how long did it take to remove and put back the bumper? All depends what you prefer. Time consuming way to the less esay but faster way. IMHO, I prefer the fast one.May be it is because I have small hands, but I was not so difficult fo me to install the filter.
took me and a friend less than an hour and a half to install... and thats with him sitting there staring at me most of the time! how long did it take you to do the whole thing including bumper removal?
2006 MazdaSpeed6 GT which is for sale if anyone is interested...
Including bumper, MAYBE an hour and a half, but that's because I ended up removing more screws than I actually needed to...that, and stopping to take pics every few minutes slowed me down...MOst likely it could be done in an hour and a half...and a power drill/driver made it much faster as well...
